Pep boys made a big mistake!

I got my brakes done at Pep Boys about a week ago. They seemed to have done a good job. I decided to take a trip to NJ at 7:30pm Tuesday night to pick up some rims about 2 hours away that I had won on E-bay. If any of you guys that live in the area remember, the weather Tuesday night was awful. Anyway, as I am getting close to Ocean Gate (where I picked up the rims) there was a noise that was getting louder and louder after every bump that I hit. It sounded like a bad wheel bearing at first but as I began to slow down the brake on the front driver side began to lock up and release continuously, kind of like ABS, except that there was a grinding noise with it. So, long story short, I had to get home and I was 2 hours away. I loaded up my rims and started driving very slowly. I got onto the parkway/turnpike and anytime that I had to brake I was bugging out! Under 30mph the wheel would lock up. So, at every toll booth I received some awkward stares. It turns out that Pep Boys forgot to put the bolt back into the caliper. In my eyes this seems like a major liability for them and I am going to get it fixed and demand all money back for the job, including parts ($290!). Is this unreasonable?

I had a similar incident with a Firestone dealer on my service vehicle. (2001 Chevy C3500 Van) took to Firestone to have the brakes repaired under warranty and they didnt bolt one of the calipers back in causing it to pull really bad. I took it to a different location and they were very apologenic about the whole thing and moved me to the front of the line. They ended up replacing the pads and rotor on their dime. I did call the original location though due to the seriousness. If it were my personal vehicle I would have absolutley pushed for a refund of and would hope to think they would send the tech packing.

They made a potentially fatal mistake, there is very little room for error in brakes. If they do not refund everything on their dime, i'd just mention to their service manager that you are going to be in contact with the regional office atleast, if not goodyear usa. Just me though, if someone buggered up my brakes they'd have a whole lot more to worry about than just paying for parts

Excuse me, but you drove for how long with your brakes doing such things. You could have killed someone besides yourself.

This amazes me that you knew you had new brakes, a problem in them, and didn't stop, call a tow truck or at least pull the wheel.

I am continually amazed at what some people will drive.
