Pepboys can't read my ABS light code

So I bought a used 96 Ltd 4Runner that needed brake work. (First mistake. I should have made the seller get the work done instead of just cutting the price for me; things are always more expensive than they first look.)

I got the brake work done (front caliper replacement) at a Pepboys. After getting the service done, the ABS light that had come on when I hit a bump in the road pretty hard was still on. Now they're telling me they can't read the code with their scanner for some reason and they think I should take it to a dealer because they're concerned about the computer.

My question is basically, do they know what they're talking about? I called the dealer and they thought it was pretty unlikely that the computer itself was bad. I'm wondering what else could cause the ABS light to stay on.

Take your truck to a real shop or the dealer.

I'm guessing it was a sensor that got knocked loose or damaged when you hit that bump. You should take it to a dealer to get them to read the code.

Sorry bro, but the problem is you took it to Pep Boys. I have never heard of anyone having a good experience there. I would take it to the dealer or a place that specializes in Japanese vehicles (preferably Toyota's).

BTLFED - Yeah, NOW you're telling me! I didn't realize how little they can actually do until this point.

As a nice follow-up, they literally locked my gears up while doing a state inspection on my car. It took them "an hour of labor" (which I clearly did not pay for) to get them unstuck. Pepboys is never touching my 4Runner again.

Pepboys sucks, its probably something wrong with your wheel speed sensor.

Make sure you save all receipts that way if they did something when they were working on your truck to make your lite come on, that way they will be responsible for any costs to have it checked and fixed
