perfect ride

im sorry and i know this has been discussed alot, but all the numbers are going into my head and then getting all mixed up. for the springs i am thinking about the OME 881 for the front and the 906 for the rear, in shocks i get all muddled up, should i just go with the OME sport shocks or some Bilsteins. i want a nice ride, but i want it to not be too hard or not too soft. the runner does alot of hard work and packs som weight but i dont want her to feel like she does those things when not loaded. i am not really looking for a lift but if it did lift it i wouldnt be upset.

i am trying my best to keep the cost down on the whole setup but am not willing to cheap out!

this is her taken today with about 150lbs of gravel in the back, i am also trying to get a bumper for the front in the end of this, so that has to be taken into affect.

so if anybody has any info for me that would be great. i just dont want to order anything and have it not be what i should have got. since i live in canada and will be ordering in the states it is really hard to return the wrong pieces.

I'm putting mine together this week I should have all the parts , I went with the trd tundra /landcruiser lift found here which is the second one,
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/101758-rickashays-ome-vs-trd-tundra-lc-review.html
From what I have read it's a better ride and overall better then the other ome lift, and it's also cheaper, especially if you can find some used parts! I'm at $775 total with all the parts including a diff drop and pan hard drop bracket all shipped to me.

yeha i read that, however i didnt like the fact that the cons listed a bouncy rear feel, i do like the feel of the hard ride of an import tho. i might end up going with the OME setup only because it is a simple order i think, i am still on the fence tho. thanx for the input for sure

I'd go with an adjustable coil over with a 650# springs in front and a heavy ome coil and billie shocks in the rear , while not cheap , you will be happy , I'm lovin my adjustables up front , makes it easy to adjust height and ride , the ome set up all around was kind of harsh imo , so went this route this time around and am floored by how nice it is !

i was looking at building a setup with the bilstein 5100 shock on the front and the bilstein in the back, but didnt know how it would work out with the 881 and the 906, because i dont actually want a lift and the biltsteins said they work with a 2-3 inch lift. i just dont know.

Well I'll just say if It's not adjustable you get whatever lift the coil provides and that's it , your stuck with where it sits and how it rides , you can find stock length billie shocks if you want , but your issue really is what coils you need to support the weight you carry , that's going to be your driving factor , I just know that I've really been liking being able to soften or stiffen the ride by driving the lift up and down , the shocks I have give 0 to guessing 5.5 inches of lift if I wanted , but keep it around 2.25 or so of lift becuase I'm not ready for cc boots and other things that pop up with the larger lifts .

Really though the ome set up might be good for you as It's made specificly for heavy loads and that's why it gets the rap as being harsh , as it needs to be to support the extra weight , so barring adjustables your on the right track here , just figure what coil you want by what weight you expect and then order matching billie shocks

I do understand that the roughness comes from the shock spring combo but I guess what I'm asking is, are the bilsteins that much better of a shock?

Why are you buying lift springs if you don't want a lift? If that's the case, just buy some stock replacement springs and some Tokico shocks and you'll be all set.

And 881's are probably going to be too tall to run 906's out back, the front will be higher than the rear.

As for shocks, yes, the Bilstein's are definitely a lot nicer ride than the OME's.

it sounded to me like he wants to beef up the suspension for towing/weight handling, if that's not the case then your right on the money, maybe he should just consider stock coils and some air bags?

Oh and who is the best to order suspension parts from?

any of the forum sponsors are trusted and reputable, give toytech a call, they have some good people there that will take the time to walk through more of this with you, i'm no OME coil expert and have only ran what i have ran for what i do, so i can't give any relevant advise on how their coils match up or load rating and such, the only thing i can really comment on is stock coils with billies vs ome lift with lc coils in the rear and radflo coil overs with lc rears and bilies, those are the 3 set up i ran/ am running......

personally i think if the guy is going to be carrying heavy stuff regularly a small lift with some heavier coils would be good so it sits right when loaded up, what have some of the heavy haulers done here ?

yeah i would like to beef the suspension up a bit, i do want to to sit level, and i would assume that the OME suspension would be setup for that. im no expert so thats why i figured that you guys would know what would suit me. if was a little higher then i would loose the rub on the front that im getting now, so that would be good too.

How much lift are you looking to do? The 881/906 combo should get you 2 inches front and back and be level. The OME setup is designed mainly for expedition and weight handling so OME stuff is going to be on the firmer side compared to Bilsteins however there are a bunch of people that DD their OME setup with no complaints.

I would not recommend going with the HD shocks or springs if you do not ALWAYS have 200-300 lbs in the runner at all times. If you do, its going to ride pretty stiff unloaded.

Feel free to PM or call me if you have any questions
Thanks!
Dylan

Dylan you have a PM.

well i dont have a bunch of weight in there all the time, so i dont want that, im still trying to find out what bilsteins are the option for me if i was to go that way, anybody have a part number i should be looking at?

im sure this is getting old for some but can i use 881 on the bilstein 5100 shocks, i know that the adjustability of the 5100's wouldnt be used, but i just want the beefier spring. somebody tell me what to do! please

also while im doing this, i think im going to order an adjustable panhard bar to correct the issue that i have of when my wife slid the truck into a concrete abutment 2 years ago. any suggestions on which bar to buy?

If you need an adjustable panhard bar to fix something before you lift, your truck is already having trouble and any lift will just make things worse. I suggest using your money to fix whatever damage is done unless it is the panhard bar itself, then it makes sense.
As for the lift and shocks, the OME shocks are very stiff as they are made for true offroad use in Australia not the highways we have. The 906's are pretty stiff and gave me exactly 2" of lift. If you are looking for towing, then the 906s should be good for the rear as most of the other OMEs are actually not at stiff. As for the front, the 881s will only work well when you aren't towing as you will get reverse rake. If you add a front bumper it will probably sag the front quite a bit as those aren't made for the extra load. If you do add a bumper, look for something light and not loaded up (no winch).

yeah its the panhard bar, and its only out 1/4 inch. i just thought that while im spending money it was something i would do. so what springs should i get to match the 906 in the rear? i want the truck to sit level and with the 881 i wouldnt put the spacers in.
