I have a feeling that a lot of us end up with new coil packs, plugs, and wires while trying to find an easier solution to replacing the injectors - happened to me (3 Densos)I did notice she was running very well and felt spunkier. I also grabbed an igniter at the junkyard for a spare. Someone here said igniters rarely fail and I often see them still there on otherwise well-picked over yard runners.....
This is my experience too. Previous owner and myself replaced coil packs trying to find intermittent missing. It always came back. I finally replaced the injectors and that fixed it for good.
I believe that the spark plug either fires and ignites the fuel-air mixture or it doesn't. No in-between. Almost all the burning of fuel occurs after it has been ignited and the spark has quit and the flame front has moved away from the spark plug. The spark is not continuously sparking during the power stroke, only at the first micro-instant. In fact the spark occurs before the piston reaches the top of its stroke. The power is produced during the down-stroke long after the spark has ceased.
