Permanent Power for Garmin

Hi Gang & Merry Christmas!!

I got a Garmin 260W for Xmas. Could anyone tell me the best way to wire it for permanent power? I'd like to mount it on the lower left part of my windshield.

There may be an existing thread on this that I couldn't find.

Thanks for the help.

I didn't want to cut up the harness so I added a 2nd acc outlet under the dash. Then I ran the cord down the seam on the left side of the dash. Looks permanent, but when I want to put it in my fiance's car it is a simple switch.

I'd go that way, just a second outlet, and keep it on ignition or a switch, the newer garmin's with inbuilt battery sometimes get confused when the car is started and causes the unit to stop chargin the battery.

IIRC the new garmin's with the USB-B plug for power, are 5V supplied. The ol' ones with the "rounded" garmin plug, are 12V powered. Be sure to check that out before you cut any wires.

Hope this clears anything up. =)
