Pet bed / mat

So I have a husky liner for the back of the 4runner, but now i want to get a pet bed for my dogs. Something that will provide a little more comfort than a thin blanket or just lying on the liner. Especially for the 3+ hours rides.

Any dog owners out there got a good suggestion?

if ur wanting a bed for the back of the 4runner to go on top of the cargo liner.. go to a pet store or wal-mart... they carry those big ass pillows for dogs... look in the pet section at wal mart.. or go try www.petsmart.com

Yeah, that is what I did already and found a few that might work ok. Just figured I would ask on the boards before I committed to anything. Thanks for the reply!

I got a pet blanket from LLBean

It's pricey, but I usually have my rear seats folded down, and the blanket goes over the entire cargo area. it's fleece on one side and canvas on the other. It's so rugged I take it camping and use it to line the inside of my tent to take some of the lumps outta of twigs and crap.

My dog is like in a luxury condo with that blanket sprawled out.

Before you let your dog sleep on it during a trip, make sure that whatever you use doesn't slide on the husky liner. You don't want the dog to get hurt if the blanket or pillow flies around if you need to make an emergency maneuver.

If it's a long trip, best to keep dogs in vari-kennel vs. letting them loose in the back of an suv.

I had a friend lose control while they driving down the freeway (one of the wheels from the trailer they were towing) came off. Their truck was demolished as was the trailer - people and dogs were okay as for the kennels bounced around inside the truck.

I like that LL Bean Pet Blanket. Might have to pick one up!

What I do now is place a rugged pet blanket over the husky liner, then place a pet bed on that, and then cover that with a softer pet blanket. This seems to do the trick for longer trips. For around town they just chill on the rugged bottom blanket.

Absolutely! Keep your dogs kenneled when driving! More protection for them and you if something should happen. Plus, a kennel gives the dog something to lean on for support.

Comfort is an after thought, safety first. I travel thousands of miles with my dogs each year and they are always in a kennel. Don't use a wire crate either, use a plastic varikennel type. The legs wont go through the door and get snapped around with a plastic kennel. Then go out and buy a nice crate pad at LCsupply.com or somewhere else for the comfort. I still even strap my kennels down in the back, or pull my dog trailer if I've got too many dogs to fit into the 4R. I've talked to too many friends that have had car accidents with their dogs inside to not keep mine safe. The ones in the proper kennels came out with no problems, others were not so lucky. Do you let your kid sleep in the back seet with no seatbelt on?
