Hello Everyone!,

A few months ago I picked up my first 1st generation 4runner. She is a 1988 4Runner who have lived most of it's life in Alabama. I intend on keeping her until she rots into the ground! hopefully never.

Details:

1988 4Runner w/ 2RZFE Engine Swap

What needs to be done;

PAINT

Suspension

Windshield replacement/Repair

Install the e locker/front diff. (was waiting for cooler weather for this one)

Paint some of the trim on the fiberglass back cover

Pull the covers off the seats and put them through the washing machine

Fix the rust on the drivers floor with a patch panel and rivets

Try and figure the cruise control out, I think the rubber diaphragm is ripped but haven't had time to look into it, they usually go out after about 15 years, the electronics work fine.

Oil the blower fan, it squeaks randomly sometimes

Just tidy it up in general.

Maybe replace the shocks? I don't think they are bad but I'm sure they could use an upgrade.

What's been done;

Brake rotors/pads

rear pinion seal

clutch (exedy oem replacement)

throwout bearing

pilot bearing

full trans rebuild w/new bearings and syncros

starter

alternator (oem)

fuel filter

exhaust

tires (have 85% tread left) All terrains

front wheel bearings

radiator from a newer V6 so it has a lot of extra cooling capacity

clutch master cylinder

clutch slave cylinder

flywheel

Replaced the auto wheel hub locks with manual hubs (the autos break ALL the time

NEED ADVICE:

I am currently wondering why type of suspension I should put on. I am not looking to go rock crawling or intense offroading, just casual weekend camping trips. I want to put no bigger than 33's on it. Also, I plan on keeping the ffront IFS. Could someone point me in the right direction on what I should put in? I would like to go ahead and replace the entire thing.

Hey check out my build thread. I have a 4" procomp IFS lift that i out on in a couple weekends. My research said its around 1200 new i think. I got mine on a parts truck i bought. It has everything in the kit. It says max tire size is 33's but i raun some big @$$ 35's when i went wheeling last and they only rubbed because of the 10" offset on the rims and the fact that they were 16" wide. So with this kit you will be more then perfect for 33's. I did some hard wheeling on the kit also and never hurt it just everything else damn 16" wide tire's lol.

Nice list..... we need pictures though! :thumb:

For IFS, I'd recommend just ball joint spacers and a diff drop. Add some decent shocks and the front should cost less than $200 and give you all the room you need for 33". Lots of choices for the rear, depends on what you want to spend, but small lift blocks are the easiest and will work. Save you money for re-gearing and a locker. This stuff adds up fast. Don't overspend until you know you really need something.

Also, if you choose to do something like that, I got a set of bj spacers I took off after I rolled mine.

Myself and another member off this forum (red tin top) tackled the driver side floorboard rust! I just need to pick up some rust converter and seal to top it off. (He did most of the work) but I learned a lot! Here is the before and after picture. After seeing this done it makes future cutting and welding much less intimidating.

Maaaan, that is some ugly welding! Still better than before, but quick cover it up before someone sees it. LOL

A couple inches of body lift will get you the clearance you need for the 33's. Cheap, easy and effective.

We need more pics of the outside and that nice soft top too.

Check the Lift and Tire thread in the stickies. You can fit skinny 33s at stock height if you cut/pound back the body seam inside the fender. 11.5 or wider tires you'll need to trim the fender, or get a mild lift. OME springs and shocks and a ball joint spacer are the ticket.
