I have no idea how I missed this thread! I've had a camera in my hand since my 8th birthday in 1961 when my aunt gave me a Kodak Brownie Bullet. I've had a lot of cameras in a lot of formats since; 127 roll film, 35mm, 110 cartridges, APC cartridges, 120/220 roll film, 4X5, Polaroid, floppy disk, CD, Sony specific cards, Compact Flash, SD, and Micro SD. And I probably missed a few.

Last fall, I ruined my ten year old Nikon D200, so in January I replaced it with a new D750. Wow, did the digital world go through some drastic improvements in those intervening ten years! ISO 800 used to be a last resort, it was so noisy. In February, I took a handheld photo of people I could barely see at ISO 51,000, and it came out relatively good! I knew I was behind the tech curve, but there is a *lot* to relearn on the new camera.

I gave my 18-200 DX lens to my daughter, and got the Nikkor 24-120mm f/4. I also picked up a Tamron 150-600mm zoom to really reach out there. I could have used that last fall in Yellowstone! And at the other end of the range, today I bought a Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 for those big scenic views.

Even though I've shot hundreds of thousands of photos, I've frequent said that I couldn't put 12 outstanding ones together for a calendar that I'd be proud of. I still have a lot to learn. From the photos I've seen in this thread and throughout the site, there is a lot of collective wisdom here, and I hope to glean a little of that.

Spent last weekend in Crested Butte with my Fiancee, scouting out wedding ceremony spots.

While there, we hiked up to a trail outside of Gothic, CO to see what options there were. Here is one view we had:

a rare clear day, shot from Kerry park
shot with my 70-200 f/2.8 f/16 if I remember correctly @70mm and a .6 ND filter. edited in LR5 and nik

a composite, sort of. the image and clouds are from the shot location, added the lightning to spice it up a bit. the lightning layer was overlayed and opacity changed to 65% making the original clouds come through.
shot with my 16-35 f/2.8 @16mm 30" exposure. this was taken from an over pass near Dr Jose Rizal Park. shows the I-5 and I-90 freeways. I-5 wrapping around downtown Seattle. I have other shots from this location as well not using a wide angle that I still need to edit

Bought one of those for my fiancee a few months back; good camera though it's typical of Sony cameras with regards to batteries. I'd suggest you buy 2 or 3 additional batteries + spare charger you can keep in the 4R (using 120v plug in rear to charge batteries).

flew up to 5,626' in elevation, approx 300' above the ground. edited in LR and topaz for the HDR'y look

Lucky shot from Kerry Park. I was just up there a few days ago and those pesky clouds moved in to hide Rainier just as the sun was coming up. That mountain looooves to hide.

Still need to process what I did shoot. I'll try to post something tomorrow.

I am still a 35mm black and white guy. Have a darkroom and all the fun stuff. Editing for me is dodging exposure with cardboard cutouts. My digital is cannon T1i I don't use it much except for walking in the woods and taking pictures of wildlife that you need to have quick multiple exposure on a potential me fast moving animal. I used to use my 35mm Minolta for that as well but the dig just makes it easier. I feel like I live under a rock reading some of your descriptions of your equipment.

Great work all. Very impressive.

Digital is definitely very fast and convenient, but there's no substitute for the sensory experience of film developing.

As a purely digital guy, I wish I had your skill set for actual film exposure. Burning and dodging your exposures in a darkroom...that's an art form in and of itself. :artist2:

I'm sure I'm in a tiny minority as I shoot with a Sony A77II. Started with Minolta back in the film days, and when Sony bought them I just stayed since all my lenses would fit. Here's a pic from a senior pic shoot couple of years ago. She wanted pics in an abandoned house....well, the customer is always right! LOL

Since the advent of digital, it's been largely a two-horse race between Nikon and Canon (excluding cameras like the Hasselblad) in the high-end consumer market. Sony has quietly caught up quickly in recent years. If I wasn't already locked in on lenses, I'd definitely consider some of their newer bodies.

I was just in Seattle again over the weekend and Rainier and Baker looked great. sadly I didn't take my camera this trip.
