Yeah especially for the price of most of them def. worth it. . lighting set I've used is two work lights (500w spot and 300w flood) from Home Depot with sheets i cut, lol
Also debating on upgrading from my 450D (XSi) to a 5dMkII/MkIII or the new 6D

just deepened the saturation and a couple of small adjustments... that was with the wifes old canon rebel xs, and it was just shooting in large JPEG, so there is only so much i can do to that one... it was an old pic i took from her parents back porch in the gorge a couple of years ago.

If you are just getting your feet wet I would not recommend going all out on a body and/or lens. Even the bottom of the barrel Nikon DSLRs are very capable bodies, so I would get something moderately priced (used maybe) and really get to know what you want out of your ideal DLSR body.

Same goes for lenses, start off with a basic lens such as a moderate zoom and/or a prime and get a feel for what focal lengths you like, what kind of aperture your style requires etc.

If your budget allows I'd say a D90 is the perfect learning camera, it has most of the top dollar features without the top dollar price. Don't get me wrong, even a D3000/3100/3200 body is plenty capable, but it might not offer quite as many manual controls as a D90. IMO, if you are truly interested in photography, you'd likely want to explore the manual side of things at some point.

Last thing I would try to budget for is an external speedlight, an SB-600 or Sb-700 would be a great compliment for any DSLR body.

Btw, try not to handle anymore D4s/D800 or the likes, after that every other Nikon DSLR feels like a plastic toy

I would also suggest to buy used. Bodies are coming out all the time and make the one they replaced much less. For example, I shoot on a D700 and with the release of the D600 and D800, it has made that body much less expensive. I am still more than happy with it as neither the 600 nor the 800 are worth it to me to replace my 700. Although the D4 is...

Also keep in mind what format lenses you decide to buy. If indeed you are planning this as some sort of career, you're going to want to invest in FX lenses (ie, those lenses meant for full-frame cameras). Don't waste your money buying DX lenses because they will be almost useless when you get a full-frame camera.

I think that's the point here! Post away! Also, I'm posting random photos looking for feedback. I'm always trying to learn and am still very much in that learning process. Any critiques are welcome. No matter how large or small. Just be as specific as possible!

ok so i know this isnt the classified section, but i figure it would get the most attention here id all give you first op -ill also be putting this up in the classified section as well. anyhow im selling my Lowepro toploader 75AW. it has served me well, but it is simply just too big for my set up now, i don not have a big enough lens at this point to justify it. i dont use it and its just going to waste. -its got some signs of use(its by no means new), but its also not trashed. the AW hood is still sheds water, and is clean. it will fit a camera with the powerdrive/booster attached. asking $40 for it

i like piktars, too. i shoot with a canon t1i. i have EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and an EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS.

i don't know what i really like shooting the most... whatever looks cool to me, i suppose.

Shooting a Canon 5D MK III with L-series glass. Relatively new to me so I'm still learning its capabilities. I don't have PS or any post photography software other then iPhoto.

have you had time to mess with the manual settings of this camera? perhaps you could take some night shots and upload them (i also would like something smaller than my DSLR to haul around).

i know you said no phone pics, but i think with favorable lighting conditions some phone pics can look quite decent. these were taken in yoakum, texas with my iP5.

Yes, all at the touch of your fingers and fast to adjust, very impressed. I wanted a camera I did not have to dig through software to change the settings.

I have not had a chance to take any night shots with it, but it does have a night scene in it where it crops a bit and sounds like it take 3 fast consecutive shots then stacks them. Picked up A Joby Hybrid for it as well.

Love the pictures guys... I'm a wanna be photographer.

I own a Canon S100, and take horrible pictures with it, unless I have great lighting in a situation where 'Auto' mode accomplishes what I want.

My baby mama is going back to school for photography.. starting on Monday. She was going to pick up the Nikon D5100, but was reading about a problem where the shutter gets stuck open... she didn't want to risk that happening in the middle of one of her semesters, so she ended up picking up the Pentax K-30 instead. Running with the kit lens for now.

Well I would never call myself a photographer, but I am a pretty avid picture taker. A little over a year ago I picked up a Sony A55 (sorry Nikon and Cannon fans). I don't know if it was the best choice, but overall I have been more than happy with the results.

One of the best things about shooting with Sony is that I can run the older Minolta glass. Here are a couple of test shots from the other night w/ a new to me lens from 1985:

Prior to that my lens of choice was a Minolta from the 88 era, it wasn't know to have the best focus at all settings, and has terrible flare control depending on where the sun is, but the color was so good that I couldn't help but keep picking it over the kit lens or newer Sony zoom lens.

As far as editing, everything is pretty much done in the stock Sony software at this point and 99% of the time I just shoot in JPEG. Only other thing I have to edit with right now is paint.net. The camera itself has quite a few features like the ability to shoot multiple fast shutter images and overlay them for hand held low light shots, and doesn't seem to do bad panoramics either:

Is she planning on getting a degree in photography? What field is she thinking with it? I ask because with the vast majority of photography fields, getting a degree in it is a tremendous waste of money. No one hires a photographer because they have a degree. They hire them on their portfolio and such. Learning the base concepts of photography are pretty easy to do outside of any classroom. Tell her to get a degree in marketing or business and take some photography courses as electives. Trust me. Every year thousands of people walk away with photography degrees, huge debt and with little to no job prospects.

Thanks Danny! I use Photoshop to stitch multiple photos and lightroom to fine tune the photo.
