Saw this Groupon earlier today. I've always like the fisheye look. Would this be a good buy/good lens to have?

Would love to give some advice, but I really don't have any. Not too familiar with Rokinon to know what the quality is. As far as if it's a good lens to have, what else do you have? If you have a good assortment of glass, I say go for it. If not, I'd caution against it.

I've just got the 2 kit lenses for my D3000 and D70, then a 35mm f/1.8 and a 70-300mmf/4-5.6.
It'd be cool to have but I think I'll probably skip on it.

Reviews on Amazon say it won't meter on the D40/D40X and D5000, I'm sure it's the same on the D3K. So that means Manual mode only, don't even ask about AF, and there are a lot of reports of poor quality and complaints of the focus even when used manually.
I'd really like a fisheye myself and have looked at that one before because fisheyes are limited in their usefulness I don't wanna pay $800 for the Nikon.. and it has more good reviews than negative, but the lack of AF deterred me and lack of metering with my camera (D5k) was the nail in the coffin.

There's some awesome photography going on here. I'm picking up little bits and pieces from others here. I need to get PS and learn how to use it since iPhoto is somewhat limited on what it can do for post photography processing. I'm still learning what my camera can do but at least the learning process is half of the fun!
It would be great if you guys can post stats on your shots.

You should look into Adobe Lightroom, I just got it at the recommendation of Hepar and have grown to love it pretty quickly. To me, it's a lot like iPhoto but with more options and settings, and it ties in with PS so you can edit between the two instead of exporting, editing in PS, then importing the new file.
As far as editing abilities it's in between PS and iPhoto, but it also organizes photos like iPhoto... Switching over from iPhoto to Lr is a whole new topic though... I'd recommend doing it sooner than later, it took me half the day to export photos from iPhoto and import to Lr.
Great shots btw, I already commented on the 4R ones on 120, but the others are awesome too!

That's a great idea. I'll try to do that from now on with mine. Maybe if I get a chance I'll go back to some of the ones I've already posted.

I'm really loving the recent shots posted up in here... [MENTION=50591]gaterose[/MENTION]: you have some SICK stuff, I especially love that black one of the 4Runner and the lights... I'm gradually loving the 4th gens more and more (3rd gen guy)

My latest project has been to make a slideshow for an upcoming local photography slideshow event, where local photographers are free to submit a slideshow to be shown at a two hour event after a fancy restaurant meal... I got in easily, since there aren't too many submissals...
Had to be up to 5 minutes, with music. Thoughts/feedback would be much appreciated!

One thing that's been on my mind a lot, since I've been thinking a lot about careers and such, is that my ideal career would be to travel up and down the mountain states as well as Canada and other areas with mountains/landscapes and just take pictures... It would combine two of my biggest passions - landscape photography and 4Runners...

[MENTION=81047]farmerjon[/MENTION], looks good! My only suggestion would be to add a little movement in the pics. A little zooming in/out or panning on them. Will add a lot to the end results. Also called the Ken Burns effect since he is someone who popularized it. Other than that, the pics look great!

I have worked with the Ken Burns effect, in fact, one version of this had it, but I scrapped it because the program I was using (Picasa) didn't allow me to control where it zoomed in, and it bugged me on several of the photos, because it would cutoff the focus/subject of the photo... But yeah, I agree that it would make things more interesting...
I need to buy some fancy software like Photoshop or Lightroom... So expensive though...
What did you think of Mozart as a soundtrack? Some have said that it's really unexpected and kinda weird... personally, I think it grows on ya. lol

That was a good move to scrap it. You want to be able to control it. Definitely don't want it zooming on wide landscape shots and such.
And I dig the Mozart. I never was a big classical music fan until I moved to NYC. I worked in an antique violin shop and was surrounded by multi-million dollar instruments every day. I grew a huge appreciation of the art that went into both the instruments and the music. It's actually where my love of photography started. We used to take pictures of all sorts of instruments for archival and appraisal purposes. I used to hang them from the ceiling from a piece of fishing line. You can't imagine how nerve racking it was to hang multi-million dollar instruments by a piece of fishing line.

That is really cool! That would be super nerve wracking to hang instruments like that, I'm not sure I could handle that lol. I'm a big fan of classical music because I have a hard time understanding lyrics without looking them up.

Amazing photos! Next time you have a trip planned, you should post in the SoCal forum if you guys are open to more 4Rs tagging along.
