What is your end goal? If it's just a hobby, then I would go for the D7100. Still plenty of camera. If you want to try to make a buck at it, I would go FX and start a collection of good glass.

Really just for hobby. I've pretty much decided on the D7100, I like how it's a little lighter, has the 51 points of AF, and faster FPS. I am going to the Australia V8 supercars race in Austin, TX in a few weeks and I think those few extra features will come in handy.
Are there any good camera backpacks out there that anyone can recommend?

Re: used 40D. I wouldn't get one because you can't micro adjust the lenses for front focus or back focus.
It doesn't make much of a difference for crappy kit lenses, but anything that opens up to 1.4 that you want to use in low light, portraits, bokeh, etc. will require micro focus adjustments.
50D has this feature. Any serious pro camera needs it, AFAIC.

I've got this one and I love it. Built in rainfly comes in handy. Especially up here in the PNW.

I have the same one, it's hand's down the best design when it comes to a better sense of security. Never having to worry about someone opening your bag behind you is priceless, especially when walking around crowded places.

Not to mention that if you're out say in a wet forest, you can sit the back of the bag down on a wet ground (with the rainfly on) and have full access to most of your equipment. All while keeping the pack itself dry.

I think I might sell my Toploader Pro 75 AW and get the Flipside sport 15L AW. Looks perfect. My gear is just too heavy to have on one shoulder, at least outdoors. If anyone is interested in the Toploader, let me know.

I might be way behind the times on this, but have any of you guys seen this:
Either the guy has huge hands or that's one tiny DSLR!
That's the Rebel 100D/SL1 with a 40mm pancake. It's billed as the smallest DSLR on the market.
Which makes no sense, because once you slap a big lens on it, it'll look ridiculous.

Thanks Eric! 18 of my friends made the trip to dive for abalone but mostly to party for a week. By far the best camping trip I've ever been on! Plus I had the privilege of towing a wrx 260 miles back to Truckee. A buddies clutch shit the bed.
