just got my new camera a Nikon D3200 love it so far only had it about an hour so still very much a rookie.

For a perspective the camera was about 3 feet from the butterflies, maybe a bit less.

So this is my first post in this thread. After seeing all the stunning photos in here I've decided to try and improve my picture taking ability. I've just recently started reading about exposure and I'm slowly beginning to understand all the different settings. I'm lucky to have some pretty good gear to start with as my dad has been avidly taking pictures for years now. So I've got at my disposal a Canon 40D that I can pretty much use when I want, and also a Canon EOS 1D.

My goal is to mainly capture some pictures of my 4runner with some good scenery behind it as well as maybe a few action shots and scenery shots a long the way. The thing I'd really like to improve on is getting the stunning clarity many of you are getting in your photos. I'm definitely open to all constructive criticism as I'd like to learn as much as possible.

Like I said I'm still learning about exposure and all the different settings that go along with it, so I really enjoy when the ISO, aperture, shutter speed are posted with the photo. Enough blabber and here's a photo from that I was just messing around in Lightroom with and I thought it ended up neat.

Why these settings? It's just what ended up turning out decent. I had trouble getting a well-lit picture with the ISO at 100

Is there a reason you went with your particular aperture and shutter speed?

Not really. I love pictures with a deep DOF so I was mainly just playing around with the aperture to try and get that effect. That shutter speed ended up being what looked decent on the camera at the time. Like I said I'm just learning right now and just trying to get a feel for some different settings.

Well, if you wanted to get your ISO down, you still had quite a bit of wiggle room with your shutter speed. You could shoot at around 1/20th handheld (Depending on other variables of course. Like how steady you are, if your subject is moving, size of the lens on your camera) and be just fine.

Alot of us just use Flickr, and you can make a "Set" and send her the link to the set.
