**Photography Talk**

Went shooting for a couple hours today for the first time in awhile. I use a nikon D3200 w/ the 18m-55mm kit lens right now, ordered a new lens but wont be here for a week still.

1fast_e ill be in seattle end of Sept, I have hundreds of pics of seattle but ill try and get out for more. which park is that from?

I used to live in Lynnwood/Bothell area before moving to CO. I don't go back as often as I used to, maybe once every couple of years. im only going back in September to watch the Broncos play. Ive been to Kerry park I thought that angle looked familiar. theres a really good spot over top of I-5 / 90 interchange for city scapes/car trails

took these when I was still learning:

question. while traveling is there a device I can purchase where I can insert an SD card in to and it auto copies all of the files to it for backup? I will not have a computer so USB sticks are not an option. just some sort of drive that's 120gb or larger that accepts the card to backup my pictures. (I shoot RAW so it would need to accept all file types)

The answer is yes, but they're not cheap.

Hepar wow you're not kidding. I also found this:

Wolverine Backup

another solution, although a longer process, is to buy two lightning cables for my iPad. one is SD reader other is USB. slowly transfer from SD to iPad, then iPad to USB drive (my iPad is only 16gb). that might be cheaper solution. but time consuming and tedious if I have more than say 8gb to backup at a time (iPad has a few movies on it taking up room)

If we are ever traveling and wanting to roll super light, we just bring a Macbook Air and use that as storage. Still expensive, but you could probably find one used and at least they serve more than one purpose.

My suggestion is as follows:

 1. Purchase a USB External HDD
 2. Connect camera to computer and import images
 3. Connect USB External HDD to computer (PC or MAC)
 4. Copy Master RAW (.CR2 or .NEF) files to External HDD
 5. Disconnect USB External HDD
 6. For added security, I installed TrueCrypt on my MacBookPro and configured the partition on my External HDD, to ensure that if I happen to lose the drive, the master files are not lost (and subsequently claimed as their own)
 7. I also copy all Master RAW files to Dual-Layer Blu-Ray Optical media (50 year lifetime standard) and store in a fireproof safe.

Simple solution, small form-factor and easy to carry when traveling. Hope this helps

what about this device? it looks like a nice alternative. has the SD card reader and i can transfer to a USB Thumb drive. USB drives are cheap and small. plus its portable and will also charge my devices.

No offense, but it would be a lot nicer if we didn't have to.

And looks like a good option. Personally though, if I were wanting to backup important information be it video, photo etc etc, I would want to see that it worked. Can it connect to your iPad with a USB drive connected to it so you can see if the info is on there?
