Picked up a 2004 4Runner Sport yesterday.....

Question....how do you adjust the x-reas? Are there special tools?

Congrats on your new ride. I'm not sure if X-Reas are adjustable. Your ride looks great, but I would add spoiler and exhaust tip to spice up the back. Once again nice 4-R.

Thanks! I do plan to add the spoiler. The salesman said he can have it installed for me cheap....on the side.

Can you point me to a vendor for the exhaust tips?

Any other recommendations?

Exhaust Tip

I think I may be the only one on this board who isn't crazy about the exhaust tips. Not that the black pipe looks better, but I just think adding an exhaust tip looks cheap--does anyone else feel this way?

I don't know that much about available accessories yet, so all I have are basic needs right now.

My biggest concern is how to keep dog hair out of the passenger area when I take my dog with me (she'll ride in the cargo area).

I will add the spoiler, but I think I have that covered thru the dealer unless you guys have a better idea.

By the way.....this is my first truck/SUV and all we have driven for the past several years are BMW's, but I gotta tell you.....I love this truck! It really does seem solid. Hopefully in the near future, the 4Runner will play tow vehicle for my track car.

XREAS is only with Sport & Limited

It is not an option on SR5, but it is an option on the limited. Sport Edition comes standard with XREAS. Not sure if someone could put the system on aftermarket, but my guess is that it would be extremely cost prohibitive.

This is just a personal opinion, but I too think exhaust tips look cheezy, silly, etc. Now if the tip of the exhaust is connected to a beefed-up exhaust (borla, trd, magnaflow, etc.), that I like. Not an added tip though. That just looks weird in all cases.

And regarding XREAS, how do you want to adjust it? What is it doing or not doing that you want to change? You probalby can't adjust the XREAS itself, but you might be able to get whatever results you're looking for in another way.

I'm not a fan of chrome exhaust tips either.... I prefer the understated look of a flat black exhaust, which just happens to be the way Toyota makes them:

I'll be leaving my exhaust alone--no shiny tip for me!

But if I was an Xterra owner, I would surely cover up that tiny little crooked tailpipe with something else. Have you ever noticed that their exhaust tip look like it belongs on an old Civic?

i'm with you on this as well… the tips look like wanna-be ricers imo. if it were for a dual exhaust like someone mentioned, and was part of it, then i'm down… otherwise a tip is a no go.

in what way do you want to "adjust" the XREAS? it's not an adjustable thing ... unless you are thinking of air-leveling which is a completely different thing ...

Invest in a dog box, it willl keep your pet
safer and it is more comfortable for
them as they can lie against the side
of the box for support.

If you do any traveling a box will make
them feel more at home.

The best part you can vacuum out the box
instead of the whole car.

adding XREAS will set you back $1200, not including install. I would spend that money on a supper nice suspension.

Nice ride.

I like that. I have the spoiler on mine and I think it makes it look a bit more sporty. Not crazy about a chrome tip on the pipes though. I have the black pipes and it looks understated. I am a big fan of "less is more" concept.

Mine 4-R came with the exhaust tip (from original accessories), and it's not chrome it is stainless. I like it, also dirt is easier to clean from it. It's just matter of personal prefferance, not a trend. Bout that dog barrier here are some links:

i felt the same way until i actually saw it on a 4runner and thought it looked really nice... so i got one.

it really does add to the look of the 4runner.

I added the stainless tip to my white sport, I think it made a huge difference in the apperance from the rear. Not too big of a look, just a little subtle. It looks good against my V8 badge!

I must say, cutting that watermelon off the back of the exhaust looks better......makes the v8 sound better too.
