Picking up 2010 Honda Element This Weekend!

Hey all,

I am getting my father a 2010 Honda Element EX 2wd (no NAVI) this weekend. Color is Silver. I have been reading up on it...it is actually a very neat little miniSUV. Practicality far exceeds anything else in its price range. Rubber floors, numerous cubbies, fold up (and removable) rear seats, water-stain proof fabrics, and top-notch safety ratings are just a few of its features! And it is a Honda, so things should last a long time. It looks like a mini-FJ Cruiser (without the off-road credentials).

My father was looking at pickup trucks, but most of them at too high and my mother hates to climb into things (thus, hates my G). But, he needed something that he can carry dirty stuff (Home Depot stuff, gardening stuff, etc), but at the same, still be able to safely carry his grandkids in. Then i showed him the Element...and he fell in love with the Element on first sight. And it is just small enough for him to maneuver around the city...while safe enough for long trips. It weighs around 3500-3600 lbs, which is what you need minimally around here in Texas where everyone drives big SUVs and trucks.

Just in case you guys are wondering...final price on it: $23,600 drive out (TTL included) and this price includes window tinting.

For the love of humanity, none of the Ford dealers around me had an 2010 or 2009 Ranger in stock! In addition, i want top notch safety...and i think that the Ranger has been a bas**** stepchild of Ford...it has not been updated in years.

The ONLY other truck that fits what my father needed was the Chevy Colorado. He liked it. Only problem...while the import trucks come with all the safety features (side curtains, VSC, etc.) standard, the Chevys have them as optional. Not only are they optional, but they are impossible to get! Yeah, it is listed in the brochure, but no one has one with the features we want! And you wonder why GM is in the toilet! :ybrick:

Nissan Frontier was my initial thought, but it was way too high for my dad and mom (both in their 70's). Toyota Tacoma is the same way.

We bought it yesterday...really cool little SUV!! I am quite impress...very solid...and it should be for such a small vehicle, it weighs 3600 lbs! Acceleration is good. Surprisingly, not much windnoise, but it does have a lot of road noise...typical of Hondas. Ride comfort is good. The interior space and configurations are just amazing...i am jealous of what it can do inside. It is like a minivan version of the miniSUV class...it truly is! :bravo: My dad is ecstatic about it...it is just so easy for him to load/unload stuff and easy to clean too.

I see one here that the guy puts on BFG A/Tko's for winter. Overkill and must be noisy.

Honda Elements are good quality vehicles and I haven't really read anything bad about them and here's my friend's turboed HELLEMENT (actually had a matching factory badge made for it too) and did all the work himself and was the quickest Element in the country using the original engine at the time.
Ran a 13 second 1/4 mile up here at 5800ft which is on par with a Viper GTS

I have a friend w/a hybrid Element. I have no idea why that bombed in the market place. It's awesome for what it is...

Finally, i remember to bring the camera to take pics! Let me tell you, i am truly astonished at the Element's practicality...Honda really thought of everything! You guys have to see one up close to really understand what i mean. It is sad to see that it is not selling well...because it is waaayyyy more practical than my brother's FJ Cruiser (except for the off-road capability). It is shorter than a Civic, yet carries as much cargo as my G!!

I've never been in or close to an Element, but wow that's a roomy backseat and cargo area. The updates Honda did for it looks good.

The mild facelift occurred in 2009. The great thing about the backseat is that it is the super high stadium seating!! Therefore, the rear passenger can clearly see ahead of the vehicle...i have never been a vehicle like that before. The backseat can recline to any angle you want...even flat. And if the front passenger seat is empty, you can recline that too and make a nice long bed! There is even a cooler to store your drinks in...and is reacheable from the backseat. Of course, you can also just pull it out and carry it out the vehicle if you want to. I am amazed at the little things that this vehicle can do. I really have never seen a vehicle like this before.

Interesting Vehicle

I have always been somewhat intrigued by the Element. A great deal of utility in such a small package. We engage in many outdoor activities so I could see us owning this vehicle. Lots of storage space for hauling and outdoor activities. The simple yet functional interior design is very utillitarian.

Besides A-fame and tent camping, my wife and I also camp out several times per year in the 4Runner. The generous headroom and fold down seats would make vehicle camping easy in the Element. There is a company in Kalifornia that makes a pop-up camping conversion out of an Element:

Conversion was easier and less expensive when Honda still offered a sunroof in the Element. Honda deleted the sunroof but came out with a silly SC version. Hmmm.


I do agree that they are not particularly attractive and the boxy design does not provide the best handling or wind resistance, but as they say "beauty is as beauty does".

My sister has one. When you get in it, it feels like the car is too large, the front window is really far away and about a foot of head room.

My sister bought a 2007 Element, Kiwi green and loved it. This year she went to a Publix (a grocery store) and since she loves the car, she parked it in the middle of the parking lot, away from other cars. When she came out of the store, she saw that a 18 wheeler truck tried to turn around in the parking lot and crushed her car. She bought a new 2009 Element, she had to get a different color (citrus), since Kiwi Green is not made.

I can just see my sister coming out of the grocery store and seeing her car stuck under a semi-trailer.:rant:

Seems to be a favorite of the over 50 year old crowd down in Florida;my mom has 3 friends and they are quite functional and very easy to see out of and drive but not my style enough to rock one.

I can see why...it is low enough that it is not a hassle to climb into like other SUVs. At the same time, it is practical, safe as anything out there, and fairly comfy to ride in. And in Texas, you can wear a 10-gallon hat while driving it!

It's so roomy both people in the front can wear 10 gallon hats.

It is one of the most practical vehicles on the market plus Honda reliability and a nice price make it a no brainer for for some people.
