Picking up 2011 SR5 with 3rd row leather Thursday

First, this forum is great. I drive a 2009 TACOMA Double Cab long bed, TRD Sport and spend some time over at Toyota Tacoma Forums - Tacoma World. This forum is just as good and has given me great insight into pricing, options, and aftermarket things and more.

My wife and I will be picking up a 2011 SR5, blizzard pearl, 3rd row beige leather, conv. package, with backup camera. MSRP $38566 and bought for $34,900.

Mass Sales Tax is 6.25%

Got a good rate on a loan of 2.85%.

Picking it up tomorrow. Will post pics.

My ONLY issue with a SR5 is the fact that you must manually shift lever into 4WD. Why did Toyota really cheap out on this? My neighbors 2000 Tundra SR5 has pushbutton engagement for 4WD high and 4WD low. My Tacoma as well. Its been standard on many NON-LIMITED Toyotas for over 11 years?? My 1999 Trooper was pushbutton.. OK enough ranting about this but needed to vent as this is the only thing that bugs me.

One less solenoid, one less linear actuator, one less wiring connection, one less push button = more simplicity and reliability.

Shift lever = manly.
Push buttons = girly.

Congrats on your new manly ride.

Haha. Silly, but I really enjoy the manually actuated transfer case. It has a robust, quality feel to it.

This is one of many things that really appeals to me about the 5th gen T4R. It feels like a vehicle that I can keep for 20 years and actually work on myself without too much hassle. The longitudinal drivetrain with a large, open engine bay is a blessing compared to transverse drivetrain CUVs where access to the back bank of spark plugs usually requires removal of shrouds around the windshield and quarter turns on your ratchet.

I was actually very impressed that Toyota put a manual shifter into the SR5 and TE for the transfer case. The way a lot of the members here use their 4Runners off-road, that's the last thing (4WD swtich) you want to go down on you when you are miles from the nearest roadway.

I love the fact that when I pull the lever back, I know that the transfer case is engaged because I feel it shift. And too, it takes no more time to simply pull the lever straight back as it does to push or twist a knob. Just my opionion.

I agree it takes no more time to pull the lever. However, this truck is for my wife.

We are in New England, we drive up North on weekends to ski country skiing much of the winter and in the summer we have a Oversand 4WD beach permit that she uses at least 3 times per week so bottom line is that this is for the wife who uses this in 4WD often. A button/switch is better for her.

I would say the vast majority of these $35K rigs are not going to be used for serious rock crawling and if so, the Trail Edition is more suited anyway.

The TACOMA TRD Off ROAD has the same buttons to engage 4WD so logic is thrown out the window on this as it relates to Toyota.

I think the bottom line is that Toyota was able to de-content this feature to increase their bottom line and for no other reason.

Picked it up and all is well. I made wife shift lever a few times in/out and she has no idea why I would want a button!! She even said the same thing about "something else to break", so all is well and it shifts smoothly into 4WD with lever and like a few mentioned when you manualy shift, you know its in 4WD.

Looking forward to testing this rig out!!

the LE is nice but another 4-5K was not worth it for me.

My only point in brining this feature/lack there of is that the we are in the year 2011, as as early back as 11 years ago this button was standard on all rigs Toyota made, (sport, off road, etc.) and Toyota has used this button since 1998 on virtually all of thier rigs, so why now to decide to de-content the truck. That was my point.

Believe me - the button is a lot more fiddly and the actuators were prone to seize if not exercised enough on the 4th Gen. Your wife would have more problems with the electronic version I suspect. Congrats and welcome.

Will be interested to see how it compares with your Taco - I have been lurking TW as well as here because I am debating between a 5th Gen and a DCLB TRD Sport when it comes to replace my 4th Gen (have a small farm - its either a T4R and a trailer or a Taco..)

Dave, get the 4R with a trailer - just picked up one of these for $1,200!

Made in Burlington.
