Hey Guys.
New to the group. I am a member and owner of a 2001 Tacoma (tacomaworld.COM)
and I am switching over to the 4 runner!

I just wanted to ask advice of what I sould look for on my first one. I am somewhat fimiliar, having owned a 22re Tacoma.

I am getting a 1997 4 banger 4x4 stick. with 130k on it. new clutch and exhaust.

The guys said the engine was replaced (which suprised me) given the reputation these motors have for bening bomb proof. He said it over heated, due to the rear heater lines rotting.

Doing a quick search, it looks like a common issue.

Any thought? I am picking this baby up on wednesday!!:thumb3:

Congrats! The rear axle seals are a common problem so look at the inside of your back tires and check for leaking oil. They're solid trucks and there really aren't very many common problems with them.

You have an '01 Taco with a 22RE? You sure that's not a 2.7 or did someone swap it because they wanted less power, haha? The 2.7 is just as reliable as the 3.4 so you're good either way as far as that, but a 2.7 in a 4runner will struggle on the hills.

I forget what the engine code is, but yes, I have the 2.7 in my Taco.
I find with the stick, you can squeeze everything out of that little 2.7
How much heavier is the 4 runner?

I don't know, but I would guess the 4runner is ~800 lbs heavier. The stick definitely helps with the power of the 4 cyl. Let's see some pics when you pick it up! Welcome to T4R!

Here is a pic the seller sent me. I have some nice Tacoma rims im going to slap on, make it look a little better!

Picked it up yesterday!! (yes it is the same engine).
Pretty stoked about it.

Engine was replaced last year (guy over heated it, rear heater lines broke), new clutch, many new parts! 4cyl stick 4x4 SR5 (power package)

think I got a deal at $2900-!

Welcome to the forum!

It does seem like you got a pretty good deal. I saw one exactly like yours (color, drivetrain ) at a used car lot about 2 months ago and they were asking $8000!!! I really had no intention of buying it but I took a look at it just for fun and the thing was pretty beat up and had something like 170k miles. The sad thing is that someone actually paid the $ for it as it was gone from the lot just a week after they put it out.

dude... congrats.. i love that color a lot for some reason... i saw a local runner the same color with bronze coated rims... i almost wanted to ask the person to trade me lol

Thanks Guys! It will look better with a good clean and I am putting a nice set of Tacoma/tundra alloys on it with some meaty destination AT tires.

what are your guys thought on the running boards?? keep them or ditch them?

Thanks for the compliment on the color...Its actually the one thing I was a little "questionable" on... now I feel a little better.

Definitely ditch the running boards. The 4Runner will look higher and look even better without them.

Here she is after a good cleaning yesterday. next I am pulling the wheels and tires off the Tacoma I am selling, should look awesome!
