(My old 2nd Gen when I moved back to FL. I had to tow it or the car, and I decided I'd much rather drive 15 hour in the car than the 4Runner)

Towed my 7x12 Enclosed with 6.5' interior height all summer. I converted it to a toy hauler. Weighs about 3100 with the bike and gear inside. I have trailer brakes. I highly recommend them if towing above 2500 with stock 4runner brakes.

I have Monroe shocks and OME 906 rear springs. They are perfect, nice and level when I put the trailer on.

I can maintain 65mph on the highway, even 70. Overdrive off obviously. I lose speed on big hills without flooring it. I get 10-12mpg. Transmission temps 140-170F with external transmission cooler.

Towed about 3000 miles this summer.

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed this is 3rd gen but I own a 1st gen Tacoma (truck version of your 4runner) and it tows the aliner with a little more effort than the 4.0 but can still manage on mountain grades at high elevation and light off pavement. Hope that helps.

12 foot aliner 1600 dry weight. I guess weighs 2000 loaded. Not too bad off pavement but would recommend a lighter/stronger system like All Terrain Camper Trailers | Take Your Adrenalin Anywhere

I think 3500lbs is a comfortable max. I have had a second bike in there bringing it up close to that.

I definitely recommend the tranny cooler. Without it, my temps were 180-210F vs 140-160F.

I have had no need for a weight distribution hitch or sway control yet. It tows very smooth.

2800 Dry. It will not have more than 300 pounds added to it on most trips. 906s in the rear with a set of 5100's.

This weighed more, and that was without a front end, engine, transmission, suspension, interior, etc.!

Uhaul trailers are ridiculously heavy. (~1700lbs trailer, ~1400lbs car body)
