Interesting... Is that legal where you're at? I know in some states it's illegal to drive with a hitch exposed like that.
 
As we are talkin' 'bout laws. Here in iceland we don't have laws 'bout that but we have a law that enforces us to keep the rear "bumper" (Like the steel piece that holds the hitch) must be at least 80cm or lower. To ensure that "most" cars wont run under the jeep in a crash.
But I think these laws are stupid as hell, why? because you can but a 4mm steel plate that you can knock off with an kick from your leg and that's sufficant for the linspection... lol *shrugs*
 
Yeah man. You'd like it if you were around it all the time. Its not as stereotypical as everyone makes it out to be.

if you want a beefy ass hitch get the B&W 3in1 hitch that rotates 3 different balls and is adjustable height. if some little car ran into that it would be catastrophic. :D
 
Just doing some paroozing about the forums this evening. I stumbled across pics of this upside down hitch and i understand your logic completely. Looks about as goofy as a can be, but i understand the purpose.

Got me thinking- those of you who work with metal well, why not fabricate some sort of hitch receiver that's designed to absorb impact from a bump/crash/etc. rather than have it be absorbed by your bumper.

I'm pretty positive that about 75% of us don't have anything in our hitch other than some stylish logo of our favorite school or the like. Why not make something practical/slick looking that's functional as well.

I know there are bumper bar's or that plug in, but i'm talking something a bit smaller that just takes the force of the impact and pushes it downward or into the hitch rather than the bumper.

If you all catch my drift, please comment- If we arent seeing eye-to-eye, i'll draw something and scan it up here. thoughts?
 
or one of these- it'll also prevent people from parking too close!:biggrin2:
