PIE Adaptor and Volume Level

Merry Xmas all! I just got my PIE adapter installed on the JBL single disk head unit and I'm a bit disappointed in the volume level. I've connected my mini Ipod via a monster cable mini-jack to RCA inputs on the PIE box but when playing the same music through the Ipod as the CD there's a significant loss in volume. I have to increase the head unit volume 7 to 8 (47/48 versus 40 with CD) positions to obtain the same sound level. There a few variables involved such as the Ipod's output level which I've got at 75/80% because of distortion at max volume and the encoded music's signal level. Although, I'm using music I've recently encoded using WinAmp and MP4. Is there a dock with a line-level output or something that might improve this? It sounds pretty good but I was hoping for more.

Ok, I think I've found the solution to my situation. Hopefully someone can get the easy answer by finding this post. Here's what I'm thinking should do it. Although I see that PIE is building input adapters with the Ipod connector now.
