PIE trouble after 18 months....

I installed a PIE adaptor to my 2003 6-disc head unit about 18 months ago. Just recently it has started acting up. The output is only on the left channel the majority of the time, and now it is occasionally not recognized by the head unit at all. This only happens with the PIE output - everything else works perfectly (not likely the head unit at all).

For those of you with experience, does this mean that the PIE unit starting to die? Is there any hope getting it fixed, or should I just throw it away and start over? If so, any suggestions?

I heard from Logjam and this means the PIE adaptor is dying. If you have similar problems and it is longer than 12 months, then you have to get a new one.
