Piece of Sunroof?

Hi,

This piece of plastic (exact width of sunroof) has come loose in the sunroof cavity and began interfering with the operation of the sunroof. How do I put it back? OR can I just leave it out without any functional problems?

No idea. Looks like a water deflector or something. Hopefully someone can post up pics of the FSM for the sunroof assembly so you can ID it.

The exact same thing fell out of my sunroof and now there is a funny smell which may be from moisture getting in.

It looks like just the side garnish that can be removed to give access to the bolts holding the sunroof in place. If this sounds and looks right then this piece is just for aesthetics. Maybe you can post a pic of the sunroof itself? Is anything noticeably missing?

i found the parts diagram (below) at http://www.trademotion.com. According to their site, the piece in question (#8) is called 'drip channel'.

now, how do i put this back where it goes? do i need to take down the headliner? if so, how do i take the headliner down on my 97 sr5?

I would attempt to go through the top first. If you remove #3 and 4 (the side garnishes I referred to earlier)you should be able to remove the 2 bolts on each side, then the glass lifts right out. Then you may be able to reinstall the piece that fell out through the top. Hopefully you do not have to remove the headliner (not especially difficult, but time consuming).

P.S. Is that piece that fell out #8?

dont really know if this applies but I had the same thing happen in my maxima, and when it rained hard enough it leaked! It rains often here so it was a major problem! I would look into fixing it!
