pinion seal

I have an 07 4runner and had a pinion seal leak. I had it replaced and it became much worse.
I decided to replace it myself and bought the recommended seal. After removing the old on and comparing to the size of the pinion itself, I found that the OD of the pinion is smaller than the ID of the seals.
I know this is why the leak got bigger but how do I find out what seal is the right one for this pinion?

It is the pinion where the drive shaft connects to the differential.
I am hoping that a dealer deal will fit better that the aftermarket ones, so that is the option that I am pursuing at the moment.

Ah. Got it. I think that's the only seal that I've never had to replace on any of my Toyota trucks so I was a little stumped. Good luck with it.

we ran into this exact problem, but it was on an fj cruiser. however, I wasn't directly involved with the repair, so im not sure where we found the correct seal.

just take the original seal in with you, they will be able to match it up.
