Pinstrips on 2002?

Hey everyone, I just picked up a 02 limited, thunder cloud grey I think. It has been a sweet suv so far, but one thing it has is 2 very small maroon colored pin striping along the sides, just below the windows. I was wondering if anyone knows if this was an optional thing on 02, or if someone just added them on there own. I thought about taking them off but I wanted to check the board first!

Don't think it was an option. Previous owned added those themselves. I think it was the 2nd Gen's that had the pinstipes.

yeah mine had pin-stripes too when i first bought it but i took them off after a while. I haven't really seen any other runners with pin striping out there. but yeah it didn't look bad just not what i wanted. here's what i had, man this was a while ago! nevermind the goofy guy in the pic.

What did you use to take them off?

oh man it was terrible and time consuming on top of some very soar fingernails afterwards. However very worth the pain! The best way i found was to get a heat gun or blow dryer and some Goo Gone. Just put the Goo Gone on the stripes with a towel (so it doesn't drip) then blow dry the stripes. Make sure you cover all the stripes with the Goo Gone and blow dryer just so you don't damage the paint. Eventually you can start peeling it off with your finger nails. I figured my finger nails would be least likely to scratch the paint, After thats all done make sure all the glue is gone and you have a smooth surface. You may have some discoloration from where the stripes were but you can use some scratch stuff and rub it in there and it will make it look a lot better. after that put a couple coats of wax on there and your good! Just make sure you give yourself some time to do it cause a lot of mine was baked into the paint and required a lot of goo gone and blow drying. Just do small areas at a time and don't just peel it off without heating it up. I'm not sure if it could happen because it didn't happen to me, but taking them off wrong or too fast may take some of the clear coat off and that wouldn't be good. good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

I removed them on mine during the summer. I just started at an interior edge, where it wraps around a body or door panel, and peeled away. WD-40 takes off the adhesive residue better than goo gone without the citric acid. I would recommend using a heat gun though, much more efficient than a blow dryer

My 01 has pinstripes too. Ive got a millenium silver withj dark grey stripes..Looks like it was factory.

Mine has the dreaded pinstripe/graphics as well. Too cold for me to attempt to take them off right now even in the garage so I may wait until it warms up. I had something similar on my Toyota Pickup. Tried goo gone and everything else and it was a pain to get off. The truck was a 93 so I knew I was in a battle to get the decals due to years of sun baking. I ended up going to a sign shop. They had some stuff they use for taking decals off of boats. Unfortunately they only sold it by the gallon and cost $50. The guy told me to come back with a spray bottle and he'd fill it for $10. Great stuff!!!! Decals peeled off easily without damaging the paint. Before using this I was unknowingly taking off clear coat!!! Be very careful when using anything to lift the pinstripe and take your time. Can't stress that enough.

I've got pinstripes on mine as well, same combo as GOTBOOST. I actually like how they look.

I'm pretty sure it was a dealer installed option since it's seen on quite a few of the cars.

Anyway, if you want to take them off, it's super easy to do if you use the correct tools. This link will be very helpful. I tried taking stripes off another car with the heat gun/fingernail method and it SUCKED. Order the 3M remover wheel seen in the link, waited a few days for it to arrive and finished the job in less than 30 minutes.

3rd Gens never had a "Factory" pin stripe. Toyota stamped the crease on the sides of the 4Runner to make it attractive. It works :) The only 4Runners that came with factory pin stripe/decals were the 1st and 2nd gens. Heres some LandCruiser 100 Pin stripes on my 02 Sport and my 98 still has them.

Beatiful scenery...where were those shots taken?

We have NOTHING like that in Florida...LOL
Well, the Scenery with the black 4Runner was obtained illegally lol. Ok, I didn't know at the time so don't chew me out. I was at the reservoirs on CA-152 near Los Banos, CA on my way to Hollister Hills and I seen the mountain and said to myself, I can climb that steep thing :)

The white 4Runner, that was pic was shot in Yemen. I got lots of pix of it somewhere in a plastic bin. I think it needs a new Timing belt :-/

FJ-C rims are beautiful on 3rd gnes :) Especially when they have some meat on them!
