Pioneer AVIC-D3 - Poor FM Reception

I have finally gotten around to installing my AVIC-D3 in my 2006 SR5 (non-JBL) and am really disappoointed with the FM reception. Stations that came in clearly in the stock head unit hardly come in at all in the D3. Has anyone experienced the same? Any suggestions would be appreciated?

I used only the larger of the two antenna connections and left the second smaller lead unused. The antenna lead is pushed fully into the head unit.

You need to connect the blue antenna wire (coming from the D3) to that small black wire with the plug on it (attached to the antenna plugs). The 4Runner has some sort of antenna amplifier that needs power when the FM radio is in use.
