The Avic N2 system is not compatible with the JBL synthesis amp. The JBL amp requires a digital input, and I am pretty sure the Avic models are all analog.
I opted for the Solara unit from OEMvalue, but before buying that I shopped around for an after market unit. One of the better outfits in Atlanta claims they succesfully installed a Kenwood unit into a 2005 Toyota 4Runner with the JBL amp. You have to buy one of the Kenwood DVD players with digital out, plus the separate navigation unit. In addition, the guy who was going to do the installation claimed they needed to keep the factory radio in the loop, because it sends a special digital signal to the JBL amp telling it to turn on. They were going to stick the factory radio in the rear over by the subwoofer, and wire up the DVD unit to it, and then connect the radio back to the JBL amp.
Total cost with install was going to be around $2900. This would have included XM radio, voice controls, and an Ipod controller that would have on-screen controls plus recharging, etc. Considering it could also play DVDs, this really wasn't too bad of an option. My OEMvalue unit plus XM radio and voice controls wound up costing me almost $2,000, with my own installation, and I don't have DVD or Ipod hookups, plus the Kenwood DVD player probably has better audio than my Solara unit. I just didn't like the aftermarket look, or the thought of sticking my radio back in the rear compartment.
