Pioneer Bluetooth Option

Hey guys,

I have the stock non-JBL head unit in my new Runner, which I'm planning on ripping out as soon as I can get my hands on Pioneer's new bluetooth-enabled unit (the DEH-P9800BT).

Seems to solve all my needs...gives me bluetooth and the option for full iPod capability (including text on the head unit), without the nav which I couldn't get and wouldn't use.

But a few questions (I'm a novice on this):

If I replace the head unit but leave the speakers from the existing system, would I notice much of a difference in sound quality from what I have currently? Or would I need to sink more cash into replacing the speakers as well?

Also, has anyone had any luck in replacing the stock system and still being able to use the steering wheel controls? I've read a few places that I'll need to buy a separate adapter to keep those buttons working...

try this steering wheel adaptor from crutchfield which I bought for my avh-p5700. The system needs to have a 'wired remote input port" for it to work.

You'll notice a difference right away w/o replacing any speakers. I did when I replaced my non-JBL with a JVC head unit and ran the stock speakers for a year. The sound quality will be much crisper. But it won't be any cleaner when played loud because those stock speakers can't handle much power at all - they will distort.

PAC makes a few steering wheel control modules.

The SWI-PS works with Pioneer's that have "wired remote" capability.

The wired version would be prefered.

I just received the SWI-X off ebay for $49 shipped.
I ordered it from RockCarAudio on Monday and received it Thursday.

You will probably notice a difference, but car stereo building becomes addictive. Each additional piece you add it sounds a little bit better. Then you start noticing that the highs are missing or you want some more bass. Then you continuing adding and wondered how did I ever live with the stock radio. I'd say since you have the non-JBL unit, go ahead and put a full system in with a 4-channel amp, two sets of components, and sub plus amp. You'd really like it. Just my advice.

BTW, cool head unit. I wish my AVN5435 had bluetooth and better ipod integration.
