Pirelli or Firestone?

I'm sorry for posting another "tire" post, so please be gentle. : ) I searched this site as well as others high and low and I think I have my tire selection narrowed down to 2 specific tires for my 05 Sport. I am looking at the Pirelli Scorpion ATR and the Firestone Destination A/T.

Out of the two, which would you select as being the best? I live in Pittsburgh PA, so I see a lot of rain, ice and snow. I do about 50/50 between city and highway driving.

I still have the OEM Dunflops on that are 98% bald and with snow and sleet these past couple weeks, I've been doing a lot of spinning and hydroplaning and almost wreck on the highway a couple weeks ago. So since I like my life and my car, I need to get new tires ASAP!

I called just about every place in my area and found both tires at two different places that I can get with a $64 difference. So because of the close price, I want to get the best of the two and all the reviews I have read on both are excellent.

I haven't driven either. It sounds like the Firestone is the super sleeper of a tire. Everytime somebody chimes in who has them they love them. There's a great thread about a member towing a UPS with his Firestone clad 3rd gen. I'd probably choose the Firestones as the price/performance factor is so good and they're reported as fairly quiet and smooth.

Not to scare you nor anyone in here, but i don't trust Firestone tires. I never had the Destination A/T, but i had the others in my former cars and was not happy with them.

Pirelli ATR

I love these tires, have had Firestone and Revos. The ATRs handle better, ride smoother, and are quite on the interstate. After driving the Dunlops in the rain I went to the ATRs, great on wet roads. You can't go wrong with these!

I am the guy that pulled out the UPS truck with the Destination A/t's.

They get me through the mud pretty good also.

Plus they do good for what they are are on the trail.

At that point in time when I bought them I would do it again, my rig has matured a little and I am now in need of 33" M/T's. But, the Destination A/T's treated me very well.

Well I ordered the Pirelli's on Monday and just got them put on early this evening. I'll get to see how they preform on the road over the next few days since they are calling for rain and snow. During my 10min drive home from getting them put on, they seemed to have a nice ride and were quiet.

Pireli A/T tires are much much better than Firestone according to consumer reports.

I can only say that the Pirellis are strong in snow and rain and stronger still on dry. I have put about 20K on my set now and could not be more pleased. Have not been really able to see the tread for a while given the conditions here. How much did you pay if I may ask? Was the price of the Firestones comparble?
