Pismo beach, CA, USA: August 5-7, 2005

Several of us will be going to Pismo Beach to play in the dunes the weekend of August 5th-7th.

if you guys go sometime in 06. I want in! I am a Cal Poly SLO student, and I just picked up my 97 4Runner last week.

It sounds like you guys had an awesome time btw, but yeah, I want in!

are the dunes possible with 4x2?? or is it pretty much 4x4 only??

You can definitely do 2WD but with some conditions

- go with someone (4WD) who can pull you out if you get stuck
- have some recovery gear
- air down
- aggressive tread will dig in...better having a tread pattern like a road tire vs a mud tire
- keep the momentum up
- wet/packed sand (cooler weather) will be better than hot soft sand...plan a trip accordingly.

are you planning it again for some time in 2006? I am going to SLO for college but not until mid-september, at which time I will be handing my 4runner over to my mom (for a few years - i dont need to pay for parking when I live 3 blocks from school). I want to get at least one off-road experience in!

I am 2WD but looking at your above post, I should be OK with my 265's? they are road tires with a bit of ruggedness but not too much.
