Pistol Mounted Inside Consolevault....2016, Blackhawk Serpa, Glock 23

Glock 23, Blackhawk Serpa Holster with Blackhawk Serpa quick disconnect kit. I have size large mens hands, but slim fingers. I find no problem with thumb between pistol and side of console vault.

And yes, I screwed up first drilled holes when transferring measurements from inside of vault to outside. So with first holes I couldn't rotate the male end of the system which is attached to the holster, because the 12v charger "ledge" of the vault ended up too close to the top (front sight) part of the holster. Had to move it back slightly. There was no issue with nuts outside the vault when sliding into console of truck. the lip of the rolled steel around edge of vault provided slight spacing, as did apparently the little plastic protrusions in the stock console which are there for the stock console plastic divider bits.

There were many options for holstering inside the vault, but I liked the Serpa system for the spacing from the side of the vault, as well as the retention on the holster in case I, you know, roll the truck........

I wish cars came with some sort of secured locking storage, but of course those wish list items just add on to the costs.

I made a little safe thing out of an ammo canister once for my truck, I was thinking of making something again to mount in the back of the 4r.

But I do like that consolevault, I like that it just slips into the console instead of replacing it.

Thinking about drilling out the coin slot as someone suggested to store a thinner flashlight--head up. Since the coin slot became unusable this might be a good mod.

Permanent "truck gun". I work in federal service and have to remember to remove before federal parking! I have TWO on me generally--Glock 17/19 and Glock 42 in pocket!

And you're right. Slow draw even if vault unlocked. Have done 20 draws or so, but in my experience (IDPA Master), it will take, oh, about 3000 repetitions to install some muscle memory....

+2 on hk. I'm surgical from 25 yards with my usp.45. Too big to cc though. But that's what the Glock 26 is for.

I would, but all the winners I run in the defensive shooting sports are running plastic. Something about the basic purpose of the tool is to go bang every time.........

G23 is my go to and usually just lays inside the console if it's not on me.

I like the vault idea though.

You should probably put lock washers on or use nyloc insert lock nuts... don't want the assembly loosening over time as you hit bumps and such off road. Probably be a difficult one handed draw when the holster body is lying in the bottom of the console.

I've put well over 10,000 rounds through my P228 without issue in all conditions. IDPA/IPSC folks might be fans of Glocks, but any serious operator would choose a Sig over Glock (most notably: SEALs (P226), DSS (P228/229), USSS (P228), Dallas PD (P226), FAMS (P229) to name a few).

All jabs aside, use what works for you and don't let anyone like me tell you any different. It's ultimately your life depending on the weapon you choose, so if a Glock gives you that edge, rock out with the plastic out.

If I may offer a kind observation on the Blackhawk serpa holsters, I am in a military organization that shoots, well, alot more than most. We evaluate gear often times for many other units, particularly of the special mission variety, and we've recommended to most, as well as tier 1 law enforcement agencies /units against that holster, we noted experiences with many users throughout the military and LEO communities that have experienced NDs/ADs with them due to the design of the retention mechanism and it's ability to malfunction and pull on the trigger during draw, especially with match grade triggers of around 4-5 pounds or less.

Not criticizing, just offering a word of caution. We banned those from use I our units and many other SOF units have as well.

Honest question, because I've heard "bad" reviews about the serpa's as well. Is it actually retention mechanism failure, or is it finger tip vs, flat finger on the retention mechanism during draw that's causing ND's?

I have a serpa for my 22/23 and I don't really see how anything but the operator's finger could pull the trigger, as everything else during a draw is going against the direction of a trigger pull.

The Glock 19 is a special operations command program of record across the board. If a SEAL is using an m11 or any other SIG, it's Because they personally chose it, not because it's endorsed by the community.
