LockerDown Console Safe

After selling my 2007 4Runner Sport and Picking up my 2018 Limited w/3rd Row last Friday, I was pretty disappointed with the size of the glove box. It is much smaller that I remembered in my 2007. I normally keep a few items in there and one I want to keep locked up when not in the vehicle. As a result, I went on a search for vehicle safes and came across two companies. After weighing my options I decided to go with LockerDown Console Safes. Couple of reasons for this. (1) They are a Texas business (I am a few hours up the road), and (2) They offer an electronic lock. Quick access is key and having to move the tumblers on a 3-4 digit lock just does not lend itself to that.

The Good and Bad. The lock works really well. I also have to mention it is a $150 option. You can set a code from 1-8 digits and it opens up very quickly with it's spring hinged door. It also has a cut out for the 12v plug inside the console. But, there is no way for a power cord to exit. Install was very straight forward. They provide 2 bolts that add the required length to tighten down and it fits perfectly inside the console without any wiggle room to spare.

Next was mounting for the item I want to keep locked up. I chose the AlienGear Cloak Mod OWB holster for my my Glock 19 Gen5. The back of the holster is near flat and it has several different holes that can be used to mount the holster to any flat surface. It is even supplied with hardware that I ended up using. I used a 1/2 scrap of baltic birch as a spacer between the holster and the inner wall of the safe covered in genuine black leather (matches the seats) that allows just enough room for my had to remove the G19 without being cramped.

I am very pleased with how this turned out. It is a rock solid mount and it is a solution that keeps my pistol locked up at all times. Unholstering is quick and I still have room inside the safe to throw in a wallet or any other items I want to stay in the vehicle. About that charging cable. A simple hole in the side with a grommet works very well to get the cable outside the safe.

I just installed mine. One thing of note, you lose the kleenex storage under the console.

I installed a Lock'er Down Console safe in my TEP last year. (And I still have the Kleenex storage under the lid...with two small packs in mine that have never been opened.) I have the four digit combo lock.

I only use the safe for temporary storage of a firearm for NPEs such as courthouse or post office, otherwise it's on my person whether I'm inside or outside my vehicle...thus no holster required. (Though I do keep an old Assault Systems cordura IWB holster in the console which I purchased back in the late 80's for undercover work...just to protect the firearm.)

Mine is for permanent storage. The 19 stays there. There is another that is on me some of the time. I like that I can throw other items in for secured temp storage as well.

The electronic is larger. So yes, with the electronic you lose it.

Hi. I’m thinking about getting one of these. What powers the e-lock? Is it a lithium battery, and if so, what happens if it runs out of power? I’m leaning towards the heavy duty key locks.

Just ordered one as I'm heading to a state that feels they can protect me better than I can, with no Gun signs in a door.

Got it installed. Weighs a bit over 11lbs, drilled out a spot to run a cord for the cigarette power... sorry. The 12v power. One thing I dislike is you can't remove the key with the lock open. So it needs to be locked with the armrest down. Guess I will just put the key on a quick disconnect from the rest of my keys. I was going to make a holster to install, but found an old fobus that I rebuilt. It will hold all my pistols (no retention) with exception to ones with laser/lights. Just wanted something to hold my carry while being protected by a no gun sign.
