Piston Slap V8. Is this normal in colder temps?

Is it normal to have intermittent piston slap? Since the temperatures have gotten cooler I sometimes get a little piston slap for about 45-60 secs and then goes away.

My engine has 51,000 miles that I put on in 3 years. It's a 2006. I don't remember the V6 on my 2004 ever making noises.

Mine does not do this but it does not get that cold around here. 40 is considered cold here.

Mine has done it in cold weather from the day I bought it new. I seem to remember a thread a from year or two ago that talked about this. IIRC, the response then was that V8's are known for this and it's not considered to be a problem.

i've never experienced it with 50k on the odo and 3 cold winters. what oil/filter combo do you use. IIRC, the oem filter has an anti drain-back valve which may provide better oil pressure at startup.

Holy crap...I was trying to find out why my 4R makes the tick sound when its cold too! It makes that sound for the 1st min or 2 then goes away.
Does anyone have anymore info on this?

The 4.7L engine is such a smooth and quiet engine... Be thankful you don't have a 5.7L Tundra... Mine makes a godawful amount of racket (sounds like a diesel) for the first 3-5 minutes. It's just a trait of that engine and it's considered normal. I don't mind it.

I don't know a GREAT deal about piston-slap, but my 03 Corvette does it as well. It is claimed to be the cold tolerances of the rotating-mass until adequate heat is in the engine. Sounds good enough to me, but I hate the noise on COLD startups.

Corvette Forum says don't worry about it. I guess that should be good enough for us too.
