Pitted Rocker Panels

Does any company make rock sliders that are "filled-in" instead of just having the tubing material? I know Outdoor Logic was making some sliders with the "cutting board" plastic material but later on in the thread he mentions warping and high cost of the plastic. And All Pro offers inserts you can buy for $130 but I want something more permanent and less money. Are there any other companies out there that make something like this?

I really do not need rock sliders as there are no hills or rocks where I live, but I WILL NOT put running boards on my 4runner. I just want something that will protect the rockers panels when driving on gravel and such. I'm afraid that over time the bare metal exposed from the rock chips will rust. Some of you hardcore offroaders have to encounter this problem but what do you do to minimize it?

BTW I have no experience in welding nor do I have access to a welder, otherwise I might try to tackle this myself.

Thanks! I wonder if they can fab some up to fit the 4runner? I see no sliders listed for either the Tacoma or 4runner. But these are ideal for what I want them for.

^ Like that guy's. I think he bought them and welded the plates in himself. Anyway that's the way it reads in his build thread. Wish I had some welding knowlege.

I've thought about this, but I think over time it will chip and expose the paint anyway. I know it's tough stuff, but how tough? I also wonder how easy it is to clean since its got a rough texture. Plus, on the color matching part, I already have a different color red on the front fenders where the body guys didn't paint match. So with the addition of the color matching rhino lining, I'll have chrome, the darker red on the front, the more faded original paint on the rest of the body, the rhino lining red, and the stupid gray color Toyota uses for the bumper valence, rear license plate bracket, and the inside of the grill. Too much color for me!

I appreciate the suggestion though as that may be the route I'll eventually have to take since the rockers are already pitted....
