Pizza Delivery 4runner?

Im in need of a second (or new) job for college and got an email from a pizza place. Anyway, if i ended up being a pizza delivery-person, would it be good or bad in the long run? All of that driving plus that gas in a 4runner, also the wear and tear on it? I have a 05 v8 about 17mpg.. Anyone have expierence with this? and i dont mind driving..cuz im in my runner! :biggrin2:

Will the money you make (including possible tips) be more than the gas money required to deliver the pizzas? That's the question I'd debate before deciding to take the job or not.
 
Not worth the risk, expense, and wear and tear imo. Try local restaurants for food prep. I used to love that job. Go in early Friday-Sunday, cut, wash, and prep all the food for the day/night crews. It was easy money, didn't consume my nights or too much of the weekend (I typically slept in before that anyhow) and a lot of fun.
 
Yeah I would definitely look for a restaurant job before delivering pizzas. You can make good money serving or bartending.
 
I delivered pizza in high school. if you really need the job, buy a cheap beater that gets good gas mileage. IMHO that's the only way to really make money doing that job. Wear and tear on any decent vehicle will be more than what you make.
 
I used to package and deliver organic foods to households. We would get an area and a route and after we packaged the orders, we'd load up our personal vehicles (my 4runner) and go out and deliver to homes. It was harder on me getting in and out and driving all day than it was on my 4runner. I did it for a little over a year and had no major problems. I see pizza drivers driving like a bat out of hell. I took my time (for safety) and got the job done in a reasonable amount of time. We were paid off miles not hours.

I delivered pizzas right after college. I had a 96 Honda Civic 2 door, and it was perfect for the amount of start/shut down, stop and go. I had an automatic, but I think a manual transmission would have been better. You can pick up 8-10 year old ones for fairly cheap and if your mechanically inclined, repair anything on them.

Any job I'm buying a car for specifically better be a career. I'm not dropping any money to purchase another car just to get some ends meet job.

You're not going to be a pizza delivery driver forever. Your 4runner will be fine as long as you respect it.
 
Every time I go outside, gas goes up like another 20 cents. 25 days ago, I paid 80 cents less a gallon. You're not going to make enough money being a pizza delivery guy. Sorry, bro.
 
this is funny, i work at a pizza parlor (making pizza), i never deliver but one of our drivers cars just broke down on the job today and another drivers a month ago.
I know the owner pays for their gas though (only what they use on the job) dont know if your place would.
The drivers here make really good tips tho so to them its worth it
 
Yea I thought most all delivery jobs pay the going rate for mileage depending on current gas prices. For my job, when gas prices went up, we got paid a little more per mile.

I agree, but I'm not the only one who mentioned to get a "beater car". Having delivered pizzas in the past, an inexpensive Honda Civic is perfect for that kind of work and doesn't cost that much so long as the OP has his other financial obligations met. Tips can add up, especially in nicer neighborhoods. If the OP's goal is a temporary job (say 4-6 months), then yes, his 4runner would be fine. If it's any longer, I would buy a "beater". In addition, having a fuel-sipping DD is great to keep around, and puts less wear and tear on your Runner. IMHO...
 
I'm not trying to single you out, however investing any money into a job like delivering pizzas just doesn't make sense to me.
 
Calculate your operating costs to see if it makes sense. Gas and maintenance. Plus if you do this long enough you’ll probably be in the “severe” operating category where you need more frequent oil and gear oil changes.

Another factor to consider will be the persistent smell of pizza in your 4Runner. :)
 
OP posted this thread 9 years ago. His pizza delivering days are probably over.

OP, if you’re still delivering pizzas to make ends meet, then go HAM!
