I was a BIG fan of Planet Earth! I thought the narrating was fantastic and the shots were great!!

However, I am NOT impressed with Life. Great shots but Oprah just does not narrate well! IMO. Anyone else feel the same way or disagree?

I haven't seen Life but I have seen planet earth a couple of times at school and I thought it was pretty cool when at first I thought it would be a sucky science film. My favorite by far is the caves.

Both have amazing photography, and the clips showing how some of the cameras were rigged are pretty interesting. But I like the original Planet Earth series with Richard Attenborough narrating best.

I like Planet Earth a bit better. I must say when I saw that Life was showing "plants", I thought this will be boring. Well, they actually made plants interesting to watch, they did a ton of time lapse photography. So, I think the show had it's moments.

I completely agree! Oprah ruined whatever potential the Life series had. I watched it for 10 minutes before shutting it off. I felt like I was a little kid that Oprah was trying to read to. Planet Earth would be tough to beat though. It's still the most amazing hd video I've seen

I really liked the Planet Earth series, especially with HD. I have all of the Life episodes on the DVR, havent started watching them yet. Sounds like I might just watch it in mute, with CC turned on.

I agree, oprah needs to go, I watched about 15 minutes of one, had to change the channel, cant stand her talking, lol

Haven't seen Life yet but really enjoyed Planet Earth. There's a version of Life that has David Attenborough narrating (the BBC version). I'm waiting for that one to come on on Blu-Ray since I've heard a lot of bad reviews of Oprah narrating.

A little off this subject, but I'm digging the "America The Story of Us" on the History Channel. So far it has only covered up through the revolution, but it was very cool and had some interesting facts that either I didn't know or forgot all about. Life was OK for me, the camera work and HD was great though. I guess Oprah doesn't have enough to do already. If she could sing she'd be making records too, haha.

I forgot to dvr that! Looks like a cool series

Loved Planet Earth, even the version narrated by alien woman (Discovery). Life was ok, maybe because it was narrated by Oprah and that ruined it.

For both Planet Earth and Life, the better one to get is the BBC version narrated by David Attenborough. I don't know about Life on Blu-ray, but the BBC version of Planet Earth is in 1080p and has more footage. The Discovery version is in 1080i.

WBshop.com has Life in BD (pre-order) for ~$41 with coupon code: REWARD25.

I really liked Planet Earth, only managed to get through 4 Life episodes before wanting to go out back and spear some porpoise. Just kidding about spearing porpoise, but each episode of Life had more repeated footage from the previous episodes. I'm sure I saw the porpoise and the goat scenes at least 3 times each in those 4 episodes. At the rate the repeat footage was increasing, the last 2 shows would have been 100% replays of previous scenes.
