Planning to change O2 sensor

I am about to change my oxygen sensor on my own as this guide seems like its a simple process. I have a few questions however:

1) What is the part number/site that carries a new oxygen sensor..? Also how much? I live in California.

2) Are there anything I need to look out for when installing the O2 sensor? Where is the O2 sensor located?

3) Should I go to a pro? lol

Check out urdusa.com for an 02 sensor. They're pretty cheap from these guys. It's a pretty simple bolt off and bolt on affair.

I replaced mine a few months ago...there are 4 of them....2 on either side....one before the cat converter and one after....do you know which one is the bad one?....a diagnostic machine will tell you which it is so as to save you time and money guessing between the four of them.....it's fairly staright forward but do a search for threads on this subject....there's lots of info to read up on it available....good luck!.

You should normally not have to change the 02 sensor after the cat. The one that throws a code is the one before the cat...

well, I guess I was one of the 'rare' ones because I changed the right side o2 sensor after the cat....everything on the dash reset itself after that and no problems since....

I'm talking about the air/fuel ratio sensor, also known as the wide range sensor. Which one is that?

.....not too sure which or where that one is...we may be talking about two separate sensors.....mine was diagnosed by the dealership ...( I'm at work and don't have the paperwork but I think it was b1s2 (Bank 1 sensor 2))and I bought the part separately and did the change in about 10 minutes....you have me wondering now if they are the same or different sensors....we'll have to dig a bit more....post any new info and I'll do the same...

From what I know (and this is very little), the more expensive 02 sensor is called a air/fuel ratio sensor. Chalk it up to if you can get away w/ the cheaper Denso, you have a regular 02 sensor. If not, then you have the fancy shmancy one...

....thanks for clarifying that greasefingers.....I didn't remember seeing any air to fuel o2 sensors on my diagram of the exhaust system.....made me wonder though.....

No, I dont know if I will have time to clean the MAF, I've got work Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and got tons of homework.

Can anyone tell me where the O2 sensor: Banc 1 sensor 1 is? The picture would be very helpful.

Cats and o2 sensors

There are two sensor types:
A/F or air/fuel or upstream is located before the cat attached to the manifold banks on either side of the engine. The O2 sensor or heated air or downstream is located after. The first senses the amount of unburnt fuel and adjusts for air/ fuel mixture in the ecu. The second senses the amount of oxygen in the exhaust after the cat, which tells the ecu about your emissions and your cat's functioning. The first should show a code on either bank 1 or bank 2 if there is an issue. I highly recommend replacing both before you take the cat out. It will improve performance and fuel consumption and demystify whether or not your cat works.

Bolt off, Bolt on? How the heck do you reach the plugs? I'm not beefy by any means, but I can't get my hands in there to disconnect B1 upstream or B2 downstream sensors. It's driving me crazy. Anyone have vids or tips on reaching these puppies?

On my V8 i got both upstreams swapped out through the wheel wells on either side--didn't even take the wheels off, just jacked it up so there was more room, and cranked the wheel to either side. Just used a couple of wrenches (use box end on the sensor, don't remember size), put one on the O2 sensor, then use the other linked into the end of the other to pry with as an extension. The downstreams I got to from underneath, used an O2 sensor removal tool, but once you've disconnected the wires I see no reason a normal box end wrench won't take the downstreams off too.
Definitely knock any mud/crud off around the sensor and soak them with a good penetrating oil before trying to take them off just in case they're nice and rusted in there.
I recommend a box end wrench over an O2 sensor removal tool--i used both to remove mine and the removal tool nearly rounded off one of the upstream sensors due to the angle, luckily I was able to get the sensor out with a box end wrench.

P2238 Code - O2 Sensor Positive

I'm new here but I have a 2004 Limited 4Runner that I would love to keep going for as long as possible. I'm also cheap as hell and have become a bit of a mechanic just through youtube videos.

I just got this error code and I'm seeing conflicting messages online about what part I need and what is the actual problem. Do I need to replace the Oxygen Sensor? Or is this a smaller circuit issue?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I’m new to this forum for the most part so forgive me if this is the wrong place to post about this but can’t figure any thing else out but…
07 limited v8 o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. Every video I find shows the o2 sensor right inside the wheel well on the bottom of the exhaust. I’m not sure but mine is on the inside of the exhaust and I can’t seem to get an o2 socket or wrench on the sensor. Any ideas as to what I might need to do?
