Plasti Dip Prep and Plastic Molding Issue

I took a stab at coating the chrome 4Runner badge with Plasti Dip and while I'm happy with the results, I'm not happy with what the prep work did to the plastic molding around the emblem.

As you can see in the picture, I used alcohol to prep the area before painting and it's left a film (or possibly scratches) in certain areas. I've tried cleaning the plastic molding with products from Meguiar's and other companies without any luck. In person it looks a lot worse than pictured.

Anyone know if I've permanently ruined the plastic molding or do I need to try another product? Thanks in advance.

Most likely you scratched the paint with the dirt that was in-between the emblems. I did my emblems this weekend and I just kept the plastic dip on the inside of the emblems. I didn't want to try to dig it out and scratch the paint. You can just repaint it and leave the plastic dip on the moldings/inside the emblem? If you don't like it you can just remove it. The other option is to get scratch remover in there and then re-wax the area. I attached a photo of my rear emblem so you can see how I left it. Sorry for the grainy cell phone photo.

Try rewaxing first if you did not already. My paint didn't look so hot until I took it to the car wash and got it waxed. Alcohol will remove wax, sometimes unevenly.

I may give this a try. I'm waiting on my detail guy to get back to me on whether or not he Opti-Coated the plastic bits or not. If he did then he may be the one putting elbow grease on it. :wof:

Unfortunately I'm starting to think the same way. I did confirm that piece is Opti-Coated so I'm hoping my detailer can work magic.

I saw it on Truck U and it looks like it works pretty well on faded black plastic and its an actual coating, not just a conditioner.

I have been thinking about dipping my wheels. It appears your 4RNR is the same color as mine. What color dip did you use? I was thinking of using the same color for my stock wheels. Thanks!
