Plasti-Dipped emblems and silver bumper trim

First I was just going to do my emblems, then I thought that the silver insert on the front and rear bumpers didnt look right so I did them too. The wheels are next once I get new rubber. What do you guys think?

I love the blacked out emblems, mine are "black chrome" right now but I think I'm gonna redo them w plasti-dip or matte-black paint.

my whole runner used to have the silver accents / chrome trim/letters..... ive stripped and painted all silver to flat black and de badged the whole car.... black looks way better than any other accent color IMO

I've been thinking about this for a while and plasti-dip seems way more appealing than sanding and painting, how did you detach and reattach the emblems without messing anything up? Any tips?

I didnt detach anything, thats the great thing about plasti-dip, taped a square shape around emblems and coated the whole area, paint and everything. Peel the tape and paper off and the excess plasti dip will pull off clean around the emblems, just make sure its dry and peel slowly. For the insides of the emblems I used a tooth pick to puncture a hole in the PD and pull it out. If anything be sure to coat the area you have tapped off thick around the edge of the tape, its easier to pull off the paint the thicker it is.

WTH is this plasti-dip stuff? Those emblems look great!! I just bought some black bumper coating to redo that step on the rear bumper that's fading pretty bad, but I might do with this stuff instead.

Looks really clean man. Is it permanent, or does it chip easily?

Well from what I understand its permanent until you peel it off. As far as durability I havent read any thing negative on it thus far. Im sure I will find out with having that piece on the front done, Im sure it will see its fair share of rocks. Also if you dont like it, it will peel right off, kinda like skin after a bad sunburn I got mine at home depot for $6 a can, didnt use but maybe half a can for all I did.

I just did the center chrome of my '07 Sport grill, turned out nice. Will do the rear emblem if it doesn't rain. Still thinking about the rims.

I still want more info on durability. For example can you power wash the truck and not worry about the stuff coming off or what about normal washing with a sponge?

so you just painted the whole area around the emblems on the doors and then peeled it off the paint? did you have to respray any of the emblems after or did it release off the paint and stick to the emblem? anything other than just a good cleaning to prep? it looks really sharp. i think it would look awesome on my white limited since i have the gray wheels...

i did mine a few days ago, and all though it looks awesome, ill be taking my plasti-dip off, and painting it for real. it has held up to a power wash, but once you run a sponge or brush over it, it starts to pull off. and it didnt look as clean as i would like. also, it was a PIA to remove the smaller portions. (inside the R and 5 and 4) so as you can tell i left the inner R and 4 there, didnt want to risk scratching the paint. and i ended up just removing my SR5 emblems.

washing wont take it off, i rubbed on it pretty hard with my fingers and none came off, gettin ready to psi the deck so ill hit it and let you know

Do you have pics of your painted grill? Did you take the grill off (how hard is it)? I want to paint mine too. What did you do with the plastic/rubber edging around the chrome piece?

Correct, paint the whole area and it will pull cleanly (if sprayed on thick enough) off the paint, and break off around the emblems, just make sure its dry and peel slowly

i did 3 to 4 coats. it peeled off perfectly fine, its just getting in those small spaces. and mine might have came off when rubbed cause of the heat here. my emblems came off with me just pulling on them. az heat is killer.

IRONMAIDEN: As far as pressure washing goes you should be fine as long as you don't blast the hell out of em! I use the pressure washers at those drive through car washes and it was fine on my wheels. Just don't use a real directed stream....
