Plasti-dipped hood scoop

Plasti-dipped my hood scoop yesterday. The grill has been black for a while now. I think this ties it in together. Plus the the paint on just the hood scoop was faded badly anyway.

I recall seeing someone else here who did that and I wasn't really a fan of it. Too stark of a contrast. I think if I were to paint all that cladding, it would be to match the silver paint.

I love it! Mine is Silver as well, and it really needs a little contrast.
The dealership replaced the fuel door on mine before I bought it. (the old one fell off during the test drive) and it is still primer black. They offered to paint it to match, but I kinda like it this way.

So, Billy...why are you trying to hide the hood scoop??

apologies, not trying to hide the scoop, but hide the light inside the scoop... and deaden the glare from the light.

That piece on mine I had to compound haze out a few weeks ago. Maybe not as solid clear coat on that piece. But if it gets worse I'l go down this road.

Tip for anyone wanting to do this by removing it from the vehicle for painting: There is a hidden Phillips head screw under the insulation in the center just in front of the black plastic clip. I took a knife and made a small X to access this screw. Also what the screw attaches to is finicky when re-installing.

Not to thread-jack, but I saw on your "build page" that you got the HyperSpot... Do you experience any beam "cut-off" from the scoop?

Not really.... oddly enough the light comes shinin' through.

Hood scoop looks amazing! I have a silver 08 sport and I’m wanting to paint mine as well. Did you take your hood scoop off when you painted it and if so is it easy to remove ?
