Plastic door service cover replacement

Behind the door inside panel is a plastic "door service cover" that prevents water from entering the cabin.

I have had to replace mine and have notice that the 3M ribbon sealant is melting during the summer in our hot Cali heat and then creating a leak every summer now.

Does anyone know what Toyota originally used? It lasted much longer than what I have replaced since. I have looked in the FSM but it doesn't mention the sealant or the part number?

Curious about this as well. When I opened my plastic service doors they ripped and I removed them, did you replace the plastic too? What did you use for that if so?

They are only about 12$ from Toyota but I just don't know what ribbon adhesive will hold up to the hot heat like the OEM?

Do you mean the butyl tape material? If so I don't know the Toyota specific pn but heard it was some type of butyl tape.

Cool maybe if I ever decide to do some sound deadening I’ll get around to replacing them lol.. I’ll stay tuned to see if you find the PN for the butyl tape.

08850-00065 is the butyl tape part number.

Just got off the phone with Camelback and the part number is no longer good. They had to call Toyota and I have not heard back about a newer number. Found out the 3M product I was using is not intended for this purpose, hence why it's melting!

The butyl tape used for headlight retrofits might work for your purposes. I have always been able to re-use whatever was left on there with decent results, so I don't have direct experience replacing it.

See the black border running around the perimeter of the door. That is the butyl ribbon seal, flexible.

Camelback Toyota told me Toyota cannot tell them what they use. However the Camelback Service center body shop told me they use 3M 08578 high heat strip caulk for this.

So I'm going to order some and remove and reinstall the service cover on my leaking rear door.

That's the stuff I've always used. If your plastic service cover is too torn up to reuse, you can substitute any thin plastic. I bought thin clear vinyl off of a roll at a plastic shop once.

Haven't gotten around to using it yet but it says it won't melt unnecessarily. Pretty general statement but it has good reviews & some of the reviews said they used it for the inside of car doors to attach the plastic liner.
