Plastic key fob cover

I just got one of these and at the risk of sticking my neck out there...am glad I did.

The Jacketstore . com Home of the Keyless Remote Protective Cover

The Jacket Store dot com carries them for $6.99 with free shipping and no tax to Colorado (as of this thread writing anyways). A recent visit to the dealership (Stevinson Toyota East in Aurora CO) and they were same price but tax collected of course.

Seems some folks think these are useless and a waste of money-at least amongst the 4th gen crowd::rockthrow:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/34025-key-fob-covers.html

but my fob seems to take more than a fair share of abuse in my pockets from the other keys-perhaps I just need looser trousers....

Anyways just thought I would mention these are out there and keeps my fob from bumping against the dash while driving. It also seems somewhat effective in preventing accidental pressing of the "Panic" and "Rear Window Down" buttons while in my pocket.

For $7 if it extends the life of my 11 year old key fob I think of it as cheap prevention.

Note make sure you get the "The" in THEJACKETSTORE.COM I can't be held responsible if you are suddenly "into" leather:whipping2

Thanks for the link, Ron...I ordered a blue one, should look great with my zebra-themed house key!:artist:

It's always good to have something "useless" coming in the mail...

I'm in.

The only one I see that looks like my 4th Gen fob though is the one with the "open[ing] hatch" icon on the bottom button (model "tyotag23").

Can anyone tell me if this is the one I need?

That's the one I have (actually 2, for both sets, one red, and one camo for my TE). I had one for my Explorer, liked it, and it prevented the alarm, so when I moved up to the T4R, I needed it. Found it at Hilltop in Richmond, before I knew of the website, Folsom Lake also had them once.

I got (1) of those for my dad's 2007 Camry...I don't like it, because the rubber material picks up hecka dust.

For my 4Runner...I have this Case Logic Memory Card holder when it's in my pocket.

I love the case, it's probably half the size of a phonecase.

I know this is an ancient thread I'm reviving, but just wanted to let y'all know the Fob Jacket link in post #1 is still good, and they're still doing free USPS shipping. I also found an entire new outer plastic case for the fob on amazon for 10 bucks. Saved a bunch, considering the stealership wanted 200+ and all that was wrong was the loop was broken out of my fob so I couldn't attach it anywhere. Ugh.

Oh, and the battery inside is a #3016 BTW..

Probably not a bad thread to revive as some folks who haven't heard of them might be interested.

Can be had on ebay as well, believe through the same vendor.

I have one on my 5th gen key now and on my trucks beforehand. Can't say it's particularly saved the fob but it keeps it looking new and prevents the plastic from getting rubbed smooth. Only mention it due to the buyer of my truck being pleased the fobs weren't all scratched and dented.

Don't drop them in the sand though! Learned that lesson last weekend.

Would so much prefer a flip key but the ebay ones seem of dubious quality and comparability seems like it might be an issue. Oh well, carry enough keys for work!
