plate vs tube bumpers

What's the major downside to the spare in the stock location if it fits, other than dragging?

I stuffed a 33" under mine.

Mine wouldn't fit with my rear bumper but that's probably just poor design. :mmph:

Actually I thought it would be easier to get to it offroad if I was in the mud or rocks or thorns, etc. and didn't want to have to crawl under the truck to drag it out. And sometimes it might not be easily accessible, like if the back end is in a rut or something. And it does look cool on a swing-out. It's just a pain to swing it out all the time, and sometimes things are in the way (like another car in the parking lot).

I'll probably end up going with plate front and tube rear since I plan on mounting the spare on the roof.

Bad idea, IMO. Putting 70 lbs in the highest possible location is going to make the handling worse, going to make the pucker factor even higher in off-camber situations, not to mention potentially throwing out your back or shoulder heaving it up there.

If you don't like the idea of a swing out, I would just tie it down in the cargo area or build something to hold it back there.

Shit, i wish i could find a wheel and tire combo that only weighed 70lbs, the 285/70/17 Toyo MT that i want to run is 70lbs by itself. The Tundra/Sequoia wheels i run are 27lbs a piece. :sobbing:

I didn't like the tube bumper but it has grown on me. Chk out DOUS ride. He is in Raleigh and has tube bumper.

I don't have either at the moment, but I tend to like Tube, provided one can clean up the parts that show through the openings. On the front, that's tricky with all the wires and what-not. I think tube with some strategic plates to clean it up is pretty tight, though. I really like the savage rear tube. Simple, excellent angles underneath, and as mentioned, if you paint the area where the vents are, everything looks tied-up.

I agree, Tube can look horrible on an IFS rig if you don't do atleast a little plating to hide some of the ugly in the front.

The Badlands and Addicted front tube bumpers are the best I've seen. Also a few members made some nice looking tube bumpers....Dirtco, WhitsonMetalWorks....and a couple more I can't think of the usernames of at the moment.





For the rear it's a toss up between Addicted and Savage but I went with Addicted because it was slightly cheaper after shipping charges were added.
