playing dvds on factory nav

I have an 04 limited without the rear entertainment package. I have heard many stories about doing certain things that will allow a dvd to play on the nav screen...anyone had any luck or have any input?

I was actually able to get my factory NAV in my 04 Limited to play DVDs. There is a company out there that sells a nice little interface which goes between the Navigation DVD player in the rear of the truck and the front Nav unit. All this interface really does is interupt the video signal of the DVD map. So in essence the Nav is still working the whole time..you still get voice prompts and everything. There are only two catches. One you need to buy yourself a Car DVD player to play your DVDs, and second you need an interface to allow the sound to be played through your factory system. I ended up going with VAIS Technologies for the sound interface b/c the interface also allows me to use my factory nave to control my ipod.

haha a bit more complicated than what i was lookin for. I heard somewhere that if you just apply your e brake, it will play a dvd...and oh was i mistaken. Of course I should have known...nothing is that easy

the video interface does need to have a ground signal to turn it on. Thr ground signal the company wants you to use is the e-brake. But you can actually just ground the wire and have a switch on it. Total price for this whole thing is prolly like ...$250 for video interface. $250 for audio interface. $100 for car DVD player. and like $50 wiring. So for $650 you can have DVD's and play your IPOD.

With just nav and without RSES, DVD video cannot be played back. The headunit doesn't have DVD video decoding and playback capability.
