Please explain window tint option - and other ?'s

Still trying to pinpoint exactly what I want to tell my dealer to go get for me. Have decided on silver with cloth interior, SR5, sunroof, running boards, no 3rd row, radio with usb port, and hopefully backup cam. When the dealer gets it and we don't like the seats, we may have them add leather. I'm more than frustrated with being able to just find one that has everything I want and leather at the same time.

But when I browse other dealer's stock, I see some with a window tint add and some without. Is this add for the front windows or to make the back windows darker, or both, or what? I certainly don't want totally clear windows in the back.

Also, are carpeted mats optional or are upgraded mats optional? Hard to believe vehicles come with all these bells and whistles standard and still have to charge extra for floormats.

Another thing I am experiencing is the ability to "build my own" depending on my zip code. I realize it's probably tied to what is in local inventory. But, what's really strange is the totally different interface I get when I simply change the zip code to another area or state. I live in a rural area that is near dealers in my own state but just as near dealers in Virginia. I can't get the website to let me add leather and the convenience package at the same time when I use my local zip code but I can go out to dealer websites and see 4runners that have both. I change my zip code to virginia and a whole different interface comes up that lets me select my model, my colors, and then it gives me several option packages to choose from. 2 are premium packages that have leather, sunroof, running boards, and several other things for one single package price. Strange! Any reason for that?

1. window tint is something added by the dealer (or sometimes at port?). the rear windows are "privacy glass" which means they are coated with a dark coating, not necessarily tint. any tint you see is more than likely just the front windows. I had my fronts done by a good shop here for ~$100 I think.

2. no floor mats are included. I bought the carpet Toyota ones, had them in for a week, and got husky liners. no that I didn't like them, just like the huskys better. I'll throw the stock ones back in when I sell it so it looks pretty. IMHO worth it.

3. some of the options are region specific, for example if you want running boards on from the factory you might have to get one from the southern region, or buy take offs from someone on here. Reason behind that? no one knows, just toyota being weird.

the tinted windows come from the factory and they are from the backset back to the hatch door. The front seats dont have window tint. I'm going to have a aftermarket window tint place do my tint, i'm going to have them put tint on the entire car, which will put film tint on top of the factory tint. So it will be even darker.

remember different states have different tint laws, i really dont care about the laws, and i'll pay the fines, i'd rather have a sweet looking truck, that blocks the heat and sun.

Yeh we usually get the husky mat knockoffs from walmart and put them over the mats anyway. They work very well. It just seems strange to have power everything standard and still have to buy factory floormats.

The problem we have here is, it's not a fine, they won't pass your car for state inspection if the front windows are too dark. And without inspection, you can't renew your registration. My daughter's car is too dark but i've gotten around it the past 2 inspections. But they warned me they wouldn't let me slide next time.

So, do all 4runners have the tint from the rear passenger windows back? If so, why the dealer add? Or is the dealer add for the front windows?

Privacy glass (rear tint) is standard on all 5th gens. However, the dealer may have added tint to the front driver and pax side windows (or even the windshield if allowable by law). If so, it should conform to the state laws in which it is sold. If there is no tint to the frontside windows and the dealer has added a cost for tint, they are trying to pad their pockets.

If you have the option, I would choose to tint my windows at a good aftermarket shop (which is what I did). That way, you can assure that you get quality tint at the retail (vs. a dealer added/padded) cost. Tints are not created equally.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure all had at least some tint. Seems like they do so no need to add more via the dealer in my opinion.
