:cry2:Hey , I was wondering if anyone can help me at all with a problem i'm having. Check engine light came on and when I got it scanned, it came up with the code P0011 which is Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Bank 1, Camshaft timing. I had it Cleared but of course it only came back after a day. It seems to run alright until you stop and then it idles rough. Its not noisy at all. Its a 2005 4R with a v-6 4.0 it has K&N Cold air intake ,Gibson cat back exaust and a UNICHIP installed. I've only owned it for about 6 weeks and I really don't want to take it to the dealer if I can help it. BTW ,I was driving it one day last week and as I was driving it the CEL suddenly went off and it was working 100% . But a couple days later it came back on! I had the oil changed about a week before this started happening thought maybe that had something to do with it. Any thoughts? PLEASE HELP!!

It's a long shot but did you check your oil level? I've got the pre-VVT V8 and I don't know much about these systems so someone else will have to step in...

Stealership Today
I did scour the internet but this code seems to be universal on many makes. The problem I have now is thecel went off by itself and then worked perfectly for a few days. The only thing that I did differently was I turned on my air conditioning and within 20 min lights came back on. Why is it randomly going off? wouldn't I have to have it cleared? I am going to the stealership today and will let you know. thanks!

Update
Went to the dealer and didn't get any further. They said since the 4R has a mod chip they can't really go by what there computer is telling them, ( even though UNICHIP swears that it doesnt effect the on board computer) . They recommend removing the chip and reset computer to factory settings ,then see what happens. I personnaly dont think the chip has anything to do with it. I saw on line that someone had this same code(p0011) in their Subaru and he took it to the dealer and found out that the oil supply lines have mesh filters in them and that they were getting clogged. They removed the filters as they said they were not needed because thats what the oil filter does and it fixed the problem. Does anyone know if T4Rs have these mesh screens in the oil supply lines?

I have a 2003 4runner 4.o liter limited. Same symptoms except that when idling rough, It sounds like a vacuum leak + there is an exhaust smell also.
removed OCV, It was spotless!. Applied 12V to contacts about 40 times and unit functioned 100% .... Took 4runner to Toyota who told me $7000 and NO GARANTEE that will fix it. They claim that my timming chain is loose, needs replacing, as well as host of other problems.
This engine runs amazing and NO chain noise either. ,,, Just the rough idle once engine is warmed up and thats it.
Any ideas? any other experiences?
