SO i spent the better part of 6 hours, yes 6 hours attempting to install one strut. Well I finally got it in, with no spacers, and I figured I would net about 2" like gerdo got here Gerdo's Profile. - YotaTech Forums with my tundra trd 2wd springs. Instead I LOST A HALF AN INCH! Now can someone explain this to me other then I got f***** somehow. I only have one strut in, and I thought, this is gonna look funny one end lifted and the other not, and it didnt, I measured and saw I went from 35.5" to 35.

When I was installing my Sonoran Steel 1.2 kit a few weeks back I had the same experience when I was assembling the driver side (not that it came out lower, but that it took me 6 hours to get the first assembly put together). It turned out I had the lower perch installed upside down, and in turn I was compressing the coil spring about 4" too far to where it was almost pancaked in order to get it in there and get the top hat on.
So not only did I spend a good 2 hours fighting to compress that tundra coil farther than I had to, but I had to spend another hour uncompressing before I could get everything put together the right way.
That's all I can think of? :shrug:

Yeah, the lower perch came assembled with the tundra coils, and I left it the way it was, so not that. I appreciate the info though. Just havent been this bummed in a really long time. been wanting this lift for 10 months and finally get it, spend a little more then i wanted, or was comfortable spending at the time, and now this.

A picture could be useful in figuring out what you got goin on. I'm running the TRD Tundra coils (Y/Y & Y/B) so I'm not sure about the coils you are using because it is the 2wd set. Did you reassemble the Tundra coils with the 4runner top hat and tundra rubber isolator? I used the toytech topout spacer to net a total of 2" of lift over my 99 "highlander" tall coils...Wish I coulda got more of a lift out of it but it rides nicely. I'll try to follow this thread to help you figure it out. I'm biased to the imperial jade mica colored 4runners

I've got the Tundra TRD 4X4 coils YY / YB and added the Toytec top plate spacer with the extended studs. My front lift only gained maybe an 1" over my Toytec setup.
I believe You're assembly should be as follows:
1- Tundra coil and strut
2- 4Runner Isolator
3- 4Runner Top plate
4- Bushing
5- Washer
6- Top nut
The coils you bought might be shorter than the 4x4 coils???

I was under the impression you had to use the bigger Tundra coil isolator for the bigger diameter springs? :thanks:

To the OP, this should help you with your install..........
I feel like that is the way I assembled them, but I will try to get some pictures today to confirm. My understanding from yotatech and the ultimatetoyota threads were that the desired coils were installed on 03 trd 2wd access cabs, the exact truck I got them from. I asked a few times over on tundrasolutions about my springs being the wrong color code and I was assured that the color codes only designate right and left, and they should still be the same springs.
I had the 99 tall coils, so assuming I would need a spacer to get 2" of lift, I still should have got 1.5" without, not negative .5" .

Dealership says they have quite a few different stock front coils (if i could find the link it would help) but the blue/yellow coils are different and yield the most lift from all ive read. Definitely could be the problem-coils might have been from a v6 with a soft spring rate or something
** however from what ive read people are getting basically the same amount of lift no matter what so im stumped as well

Yeah I have no idea. I read the same that the spring doesnt REALLY matter, some lift will be achieved no matter what. Gonna take some pics and see if I did something wrong.
They came off a trd tundra. I didnt use the tundra isolator. You think that could be the problem?

No the isolator doesn't give you any lift it just centers the coils in the assembly, what is the color code on your coils?
its br/w b/w I was pissed when I got them because I thought I was gonna be getting the yy/yb springs. I then talked to a toyota foreman on tundrasolutions and he told me that the color codes only told right and left. He had found my same color code on both trd and non trd tundras. Mine was from a trd.

While he is somewhat correct, the color codes do differentiate right from left, they also denote the part # for that coil. I'm not going to say that the tundra you got yours from was not a TRD but I do know that when Andy did all his research he found that the YY YB coils were the coils he found on factory equipped TRD 1st gen Tundra's. I'm not sure about the coils you currently have but I think your results speak for themselves...can you take the coils you have back?
I dont think so, I bought some off of a guy on tundrasolutions who is adamant that his truck met all the criteria for what I wanted.
