Guys, I've been looking for a 4runner for the past few days and I need some help. I fully understand the differences in the AWD of the 99-00 Limited and the 4WD of the SR5. I want a 99 or 2000 4WD with rear diff lock.
I live in Okahoma and we see a few ice/snow storms during the winter. I sold my 97 Lexus SC300 because during the snow, the car was worthless and I had to bum rides to work for 2 weeks.
Here's the question:
Can the SR5 4WD be engaged on dry pavement where there's patches of snow and ice?
The problem with Tulsa is that the city is not fully prepared for snow/ice storms and you'll have patches of ice on the roads and then parts where there's no ice at all. If anything melts during the day, you have black ice at night.
What happens when I put the SR5 in 4WD on the snow and then I come to a few miles of dry pavement? It would be annoying to shift into 4WD every time I come up to a patch of ice/snow.
Any insight would be appreciated but I'm currently leaning towards a 99-00 Limited only because of the Multi-Mode AWD.
Tres
