Hey guys, i'm by no means an expert but I know there are a lot of people on here that are really helpful.

I noticed a grease leak (metallic colored) under my vehicle on the drivers side. What part is this? What is this from? What do you think needs to be done?

Thanks for your help!!

Under the grease should be a metal clamp which is probably leaking. With a bit of luck it just needs tightening. If you're not lucky you may need to replace the whole CV boot.

Above posts are correct CV boot leak. You may need to replace the clamp, pick up a hose clamp and see if it stops the leak.

What are the odds that I have messed up the cv joint and will have to replace axle and all?

The passenger side has a leak to, and it looks to be not as fresh as this one.

Usually if its not a giant gaping hole sucking in dirt and crap you can disassemble the axle, clean it real well, re-grease it, and throw a new boot on it.

Depending on your time you may just want to replace the axle. I bought one for $100 instead of pulling mine apart and replacing the boot and hoping the joint was ok. Some people claim they have found them online for less.

I was going to get new boots for both sides and swap them out, but found brand new Cardone axles with improved boots for $43.79 at rockauto.com... they're really nice!

I'll put new boots on the ones I pull out and keep them as spares.

Thanks Doozi! May be a stupid question but will the Cardone axles work with 4WD models as well as 2WD?

Thanks again for the help
