ok. so here it is... i just recently replaced the transmission in my 91 4runner. after about 3 or so weeks driving it, i was leaving the store and it would not start. just one click.. i messed around with the cable to the starter (jiggled it) and it started right up. no problems for a couple more weeks.
the other day now i was driving and power cut off while driving. everything. almost lost control going down a hill. anyway. i get it pulled off to the side and pop the hood and notice alot of smoke and my temp guage all the way up. the ground wire from the negative and the ground on the driver side that connects to a plug that goes to the ignition ? was smoking and pretty much on fire.. no power to anything.
i was thinking that maybe the connection of the battery cable to the starter was not all the way tight and shorted it out and fried all my grounds to the truck. i took the battery in today to get tested and there was zero power. got a new battery and new wires for the grounds. don't know if i need new cables, they seem to look fine. just the smaller wires got toasted.
has this happened to anyone ? any suggestions ? i'm really in the dark on this. any info anyone has would be greatly greatly appreciated. would really like to know what to do and what i'm looking at here.
thanks
