Please persuade me into buying a 4Runner

have been looking for a beater after my last one took a huge dump on me. I found a 1986 Toyota 4Runner for $500. No rust, everything works but the engine has 244K on it. (It's the 22re engine, supposedly bulletproof). It's a 5 speed 4x4. I think i'm going to pick it up because if there is anything wrong with the engine, there isn't much i can't fix. I just figured i'd get some opinions. Anyone who has worked/owned an older Toyota with the 22r or 22re engine, any testimony to the longevity of these engines? I thought it was a good deal, I just figured i'd see what everyone else thought.

I just got an email from a guy with a 1982 Datsun 720 he told me he'd let it go for $400 (needs a clutch) so im not sure which one to purchase. Although im pretty much set on the Toyota. Here are some pics of the 720. It's lifted 7" and has offroad tires on it. It's a 4 speed manual.

For the rust alone i say toyota, plus the other truck looks beat. You could always do an engine swap on the yota too.

There's no frame rust on the Datsun just some body rust. And there is no reason to swap anything, they both work.

Rust is Rust is Rust, stay away from Rust. Rust can never get better, only stopped or gets worse.

That is true. Another reason i like the Datsun is that it is already lifted. How much would a lift cost on an 86' 4Runner? You'll have to pardon me as I'm a newb to 4x4's :ybrick: lol

4Runner, it's got covered cargo space. You can remove it if you need more room.

Get both.

The 720 has a divorced transfer case if I remember correctly, which is an excellent choice for doing a twin transfer case mod. Fit that behind the 4Runner's one and you've got a great crawler project started.

Unfortunately funds don't permit me to purchase both not to mention im not looking for a crawler, i'm looking for a daily driver and a little offroading.
